How many of you have received your submissions just to find cracked slabs?

I received my last two submissions with (4) cracked slabs.

Why can't they go back to using all bubble wrap instead bubble wrap and crumpled up paper?

They need to give some sort of reimbursement or credit when this happens. I've sent back way too many cracked slabs. That cost adds up.

I haven't received a single cracked slab, including third-party purchases. Maybe I've had good luck.

I have never had a cracked slab from CBCS. Not once, ever. Not even when purchased second hand. The cgc, we'll that is a different story altogether.

I did crack one CBCS slab once when I dropped it in on the concrete coming out of SDCC years ago. That said, the crack is so small that you have to hunt for it.

What cost? It should be $0. Are you telling me cbcs isn't paying for all the costs, including shipping both ways?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. CBCS HAVE replaced all my damaged slabs even the ones with wrong labels at no charge. What I was referring to was the time it takes and my expense to send them back.

Yes, they do bubble wrap the slabs but it's the wadded up paper that's the problem. I use FEDEX and other than coming by my house when I'm not there, they have been very good.

Just curious, are you saying CBCS sent you cracked slabs? Or are you saying their packaging is inadequate? Or is the delivery company responsible for being too rough with the package?

I receive about (32) slabs per box. The boxes themselves are dented but not broken (most of the time). On the inside is all that crumpled up paper, in the middle are two (16) slabs side by side bubble wrapped with rolled up paper in between. So I'm assuming that during shipping and being bounced around, moving from truck to truck they get damaged. When I take off the bubble wrap sometimes pieces of the slab fall out or the slab is cracked like in my pictures. The bubble wrap does a great job but the rolled up paper doesn't. This happens with magazine slabs also. In the past it used to be all bubble wrap and that worked soooo much better.

All I would like to see is some sort of reimbursement for my shipping and insurance costs.

I am sure that CBCS doesn’t send out cracked slabs.

They were cracked in transit and it seems like the OP is saying that CBCS doesn’t pack slabs as well as they used to, which I think is a solid point.

CBCS should adopt CGC’s latest shipping method of packing slabs, that is something CGC finally got right this past year.

Nope. Bubble wrapped surrounded by a thick layer of expertly scrunched brown craft paper.

You may not like my answer, but the problem is the 32 slabs in one box. I try not to go over 20 with 25 being the absolute maximum number of books per invoice.

Too many slabs in one box is your problem. You will save money in the long run and no longer have to deal with cracked slabs.

Definitely the # of slabs in the box.... that and the package-mauling delivery companies....in all my 35+ submissions (give or take), not a single damaged slab....all my subs are between 11 and 5 books.

Hi DrWatson,
I'm not the one sending the slabs out. It's CBCS who's sending the (32) slabs to me.

You didn't submit 32 comic books on one invoice? The FF 60 looks like it was part of an at least 36 book submission.

I have never had multiple invoices shipped back in the same box. One invoice per box.

One comic on an invoice. One comic shipped back. Twenty books on an invoice. Twenty comics shipped back.

Even if I mailed all the invoices to CBCS in the same box, all the invoices were shipped back in separate boxes.

You need to reduce the number of books on an invoice so it will reduce the number of slabs returned to you in a single box.

that is a lot of slabs per box. The majority of cracked slab complaints (from cbcs and cgc) I’ve seen are from large shipments. The conclusion is usually that the slabs not protected by the outer layers packaging and failing from the transfers of force with only other rigid slabs between them and the point of impact.

It’s annoying, but I’m sure they will accommodate you. Ultimately there is only so much they can to protect the slabs from carrier handling without sending them in crates sufficient for the Ark of the Covenant.

I normally send (57) to (100) per submission. It saves on time and shipping (for me). When CBCS sends them back it's between 3-4 boxes.

Well, you and CBCS need to have a confab and agree to return ship no more than 25 slabs at a time. It will more than likely solve your problem while saving you time and money in the long run.
