Hey guys! What exactly does a "File Copy" mean? A friend of mine says that means it was a book that was a part of one of the creator's collections. Anyone able to confirm this? |

@nancyraygun Kind of. The broader definition is that a file copy is a copy of the book the publisher (though extended to individual creators) kept on file for archive or reference purposes Here's CGC's definition |

How does one know that they have (or are purchasing) a file copy? Is there some kind of certificate saying the comic is a file copy (or are you just supposed to take someone's word)?

Must be able to trace back to the publisher so either there will be a recognized coa or it is slabed

If it wasn't for the value, why would a publisher even keep them on file any longer? The rate in which universes are reset means that characters don't have a long history anymore. Reading a book today isn't like reading the X-Men in the late 1980's to early 1990's. Remember when they would reference something and in the panel was a little box that explained what issue you need to pull out of your collection to help the reader understand what they were writing about? Man, those were the days ![]() |

I didn't know that. I don't read many DC comics anymore.
