Now that TFAW.com is closing down it's time for me to find a new mail order store. I'm guessing mycomicshop? Any other suggestions?

They also do "signature series" where you pay cover price for the set (usually a mini or the first 6 issues) and once the last issue is out they mail it all to you signed by the creator. Only thing that sucks is your not able to read any of it till you get it.

I like the MCS subscription service. I don’t get many store exclusives; it’s too much to keep up with. I also like that I pick what covers I want and they send a variant selection notification.

rickscomicsandgrading.com

you can do your subs there, they also offer cleaning and pressing services, are CGC facilitators, can collect sigs at cons and submit for yellow labels(their next facilitation event is C2E2 in Chicago), as well as submit for CBCS. They run a FB Auction and BIN every Thursday, they do claim sales and WhatNot. Pretty much a one stop shop.

I was buying books from TFAW for quite awhile until they raised their bag/board price and their shipping. I switched to Midtown for awhile until I looked at MCS. I have been with MCS for a couple years and I am delighted in the bags and boards, the shipping (was $5.00) and the boxes they ship in. They are very strong and they use foam in the corners to hold the books in. Like @HulkSmash said they send you a notification of variant covers before they ship. For pre-orders I buy almost all my books from MCS. Another nice caveat is they will ship any books you buy from their store in your next shipment. That's one thing Midtown would not do.

I used to have a pull box with Midtown Comics. They were very good.

I also use midtown comics, their pricing is very comparable to TFAW.

Word of warning about Midtown. They sell a lot of Dynamic Forces signed and sketched blanks. I waited two years for two different books. They said it was Dynamic Forces fault. My complaint was they did not harass DF for the books and after paying Midtown and waiting all that time I finally gave up on both and got my money back. I don't think any online retailer should make a buyer wait months or years for a book they paid for.

I don't preorder anymore, but https://www.dcbservice.com/ was good for me until covid hit and then I stopped ordering from them after receiving damaged books after continually asking them for months about where my shipment was.

From then until about 2023 I used MCS and never had any issues, even when comics arrived damaged from impacts to the package. The books were always promptly replaced or refunded and it was always a very easy process with their customer service dept.

I totally agree with @belarak, no customer should have to wait months for books they pay for. This reminds me of comicconnect. I have to wait months for books I won at auction. I have to constantly send emails reminding them, which is very frustrating. I also noticed books missing in my TFAW shipments, showing the decline in service and quality control. I think this is common with businesses who have been operating a long time. Initial success can lead to complacency and an eventual spiral downward if they begin to show a disregard for the most basic customer commitments and service. Collectors will go elsewhere and the business will eventually collapse. A very sad end result for everyone, including the comic community, who also lose a once reliable resource.

I´ve ordered from midtown but stopped using them in 2016. I did most of my buying from The Comic Mint but they no longer list preorders. I´ve also used unknown comics but they are too expensive. The Comic Corner is another I have tried and they are also hard to communicate with and have had issues with expensive comics that were not properly pakaged. They did fix it and send me a new copy but it was a pain in the ass to get someone to answer me.

oh yeah; I like the piggyback shipping. I will note that Consignments and Auctions cannot be piggybacked.

I used midtown for a while but stopped when I got a couple orders that were roughed up. I've been using MCS since my local shop closed in the fall and have had no complaints other than the slightly complicated process to get started.

I've used dcbservice since 2011. I think I had to contact them once about a book not in my shipment and it was in the next one. They have went to the cardboard inserts for most of my shipments so everything is secure. No complaints. I opt for the one shipment per month but you can up that to weekly I believe.
