The Un-Uncanny Silver Age X-Men21609

I've spent years perfecting my brand of assholery. DrWatson private msg quote post Address this user
Even though my first comic book was Fantastic Four 186, the X-Men have always been my first love super team. The first issue I bought of the rack was number 148, but it didn't take long to develop an interest in the back issue.

I can't remember the first Silver Age back issue I picked, but it sparked a need to collect them all. I sold all my Silver Age books several years back, but I kept the Northland copy of X-Men number 41for some reason. From that seed book, grew the collection I now have and continue to add books when the opportunity presents itself.

In numerical order so far...

I won this one from ComicLink years ago. I had to get my friend Dale Roberts bid on it for me because I was banned from bidding over some comments I made on the cgc chat board. All that is water under the bridge now and I can bid again on their auctions.

My first book submitted to CBCS and my first CBCS slab. They brought it SDCC and I picked it up there while working Dale Roberts Booth. I can't remember where I bought this one, but I'm pretty sure it had been graded by the cgc.

I found where this one had sold on eBay. I tracked the buyer down and offered them double what they paid for it, which wasn't all that much back in those days. To my horror, the buyer had cracked it out and thrown away the label distinguishing the book as the Northland copy. Luckily, I was able to save the picture from the previous eBay listing and send them to the cgc and get the pedigree reinstated.

@DrWatson Incredible copies. Anytime I come across a Northland copy of some book I think about how you collect that pedigree.

I appreciate it. If anyone stumbles across a Northland X-Men, please let me know. I know there is a 9.0 copy of X-Men 46 on eBay, but I already have a 9.4. Ed found that one for me on a UK website. 👍

I would die if I ever came across a good graded pre-reprint era X-men book

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@DrWatson great books. If I can remember that you're looking for the Northland Pedigree and not the far more prestigious Promise collection, I'll keep an eye out .

Speaking of X-Men 10...

This book has an interesting history. I don't remember how exactly it came to be in my collection the first time, but I certainly remember the second time. I was selling my collection on the cgc boards and the book was purchased by a rather well known board member. As time went by, I regretted selling the book as I had decided to keep the Northland copy of X-Men 41 for myself and wanted this book back. I reached out the board member who purchased the book, even offering more than he paid, but he refused to sell the book back to me. As time went on, I repeatedly inquired about buying the book, but was refused each time.

Quite tragically, my friend nik from the cgc boards passed way from a brain aneurysm. That year a benefit auction was held at the Chicago Comic Con and this book was donated by the cgc board member. A good friend at the time offered to bid on the book on my behalf and won it back for me. It's something I will never forget.

I can't remember were this book came from, but it would never be able to hold a candle to the previous story.

This book was acquired from either Colmoreman or Flaming Telepath, both of the cgc boards and UK residents.

this was my first X-men book and like you started my love for X-men. What I got was the reprint, and am now going back to try and get some of the key issues I loved.

I just grabbed this raw, this past Thursday.

I bought this raw a long time ago in an antique store for a couple hundred. I finally got it graded in 2001.

I'm not sure where I picked this on up. I'm thinking it could have been eBay.

I won this one on ComicLink. It took forever to find a well centered copy of this issue.

X-men have always been my favorite team. This was the first x-men that I bought at about 12 years old.

In keeping with the theme, this is the earliest silver age X-Men I have.

I ended up with two copies of issue 26. One came from ComicLink and the other came from either FlamingTelepath or Colemore Comics. This is how I figured out the Northland pedigree had duplicates.

Part of an eBay bulk purchase if I remember correctly.
