Foolish hypebeast peddlers most of them are. |

My question is why even bother sending books in to get slabbed when the books themselves are being damaged in the process? At least with CBCS you know the book isn't likely to get damaged during the slabbing process. Unlike current CGC CBCS will actually protect the book and also preserve the grade it was issued during slabbing. Not sure with PSA if their slabbing process has any kinks, but I do know they are having their own issues with labeling/grading notes as of right now. Hopefully, they can get those issues resolved and help to provide more meaningful competition to CGC alongside with CBCS. Only when CGC is losing money will they ever try to go back and fix their quality control issues with slabbing. These people making videos crying about their books being damaged while still saying they won't use CBCS or PSA due to a 10% or 20% profit margin on resell are truly clowns. |

I've set up at a few small shows in the last few months. Potential Buyer Question 1: "I have this Batman issue, but the cover doesn't glow in the dark". Answer: You have to not utilize the protective white blank placed over the cover to protect the cover to see the glow in the dark. The glow in dark cover is beneath the white cover Question 2 from another browser: "Why do people like these covers with no artwork on the cover?" Answer: People often like to get original sketches on these type of blank/sketch covers. My point of stating these? - there are uninformed, ostrich head in the dirt, oblivious, clueless comic folk out there that have 0 idea what is going on. I used to think comic collectors were among the brightest and savvy micro-group of the human population. And maybe they were years ago. But something has happened and many are just as clueless and out in left field as anyone. This CGC damaging books is just another topic that most are clueless. They just see $$$ signs with the plastic and the 9.8's and that's all they know |

You see it on the forum here as well. I have to get top dollar, I need to maintain this (obvious gift) grade, etc. A lot of people's feelings change when they're in a situation personally.

@Nuffsaid111 I think a lot of it is fallout from the COVID boom. You have a huge new subset of the comic community who has never had an in-person interaction with another comic fan. All of their education has been through social media, Whatnot, and YouTube. They have an incredibly sheltered and skewed view of the hobby. I think, frustrating as it is, it's our job as elder fans (even those of you who aren't especially elder in age) to teach them about the hobby if we want it to survive. |

I mean...growing up I'm sure we all knew stores or sellers who's NM's were NOT anywhere near an NM...so it didn't take long as a kid to a) notice the difference and b) start to learn to grade for yourself either through talking to the store owner or picking up a grading guide and reading that sucker cover to cover The 'new' collector just knows what the label says...and they trust it....hell even if you trust it there are a range of 'defects' allowed in 9.4 or lower that for me automatically knock some books out.... |

Yea.... when I actually do explain to those that don't know what sketch covers are often used for; or don't know that the white cover over the Glow in the dark doesn't glow .... they'll listen. But when I actually tell them that CGC is bending/ruining books often and usually, it's like I told them to go brush their teeth before bed. They not only don't listen; they fight you on it and call you an old hater of graded comics. Sigh. |

Well, you can't reach everyone. Or help people who don't want to be helped. But those aren't reasons not to try.

I don't know if telling someone to figure it out on their own is the right way to go about it. I try to figure things out on my own but I also talk to the store owners, dealers at a show, or just random people that I meet about the hobby. If they're new and have genuine interest (and not about how much money they can make) then I will talk to them to find out their goals, interests, etc. I don't mind that kind of teaching. Hell, I think my introduction was a little insert in a multipack I bought that covered the history, conditions, and a few other topics lost to my memory. I won't help profiteers. They're on their own.
