I may have to make to trip to @DrWatson's house so we can eat crow together. I have my eye on a #45 slab at auction, only because of the signatures I want and I could potentially get it on a lowball bid. It would be my first time knowlingly bidding on or purchasing a bananaslab.

If it works out financially and you know what you are getting into, then that's a completely different situation.

What sucks is buying on faith only to discover you've been banana-ed without warning.

The problem is it's a grab bag full of snakes. 🐍

Hi! I’ve been out of the hobby (mostly) for a couple of years now. There’s one book on MCS that was graded this past May. Are they still having their banana issue? $1500 book, feels like a gamble

You should know better.

I just bought one as well, but I checked the grade date and asked the seller if it was a banana slab before bidding. Plus, the serial number started with a 28.

I have submitted one book to the cgc through CFP_Comics. I feel bad about it, but he really saved my bacon. I'm not interested in a repeat of that scenario. I don't mean CFP. They were great. Always have been.

There's a couple 7.5 Detective 359's at MCS - but they are CGC and in the #44 - #45 range....so I'll save up for something else...I'll not go near a serial # from say #42 on...

with the danger of being thrown to the Lions - the banana thing hits the minority of the books rather than every single book.

i would be concerned if it is 9.6 or 9.8 but for others i see the benefits outweighing the risk if price is right

I think the word on cgc bananas' is getting out there too as some books with the 43 to 45 serial #'s appear to be discounted.

I've watched one serial number 45 book drop over $200 and it still hasn't sold.

Is CBCS going to be at the Summer Con later this month?

If they are I'll be bringing my Demons and Swamp Things to get graded and another book I have in mind?

You need to lower that to a bare minimum of 414 on and to be sure 400 on. Bware though half bananas going down to at least 300 on

In my experience, I have to agree with @1979_03 when it comes to CGC Moderns.
Going back to when this "bent book" discussion began strongly on the CGC forum (not necessarily when the issue began), I haven't had a modern submission that the majority of books aren't bent. In most cases, it was every single damn book in the Modern submission.

I will say that vintage is "less" but still typically not good. Maybe 25% - 75% bent. The numbers are all over the place. Again - my personal experience on my books submitted

But when we're talking 90%+ for Moderns
And minimal 25% (and often more) for Vintage
.... then Houston, they have a severe problem.

The only books I have been submitting to CGC as of late are mini-comics and Magazine size which seem to actually be void of the bends

This is good information. I may send some magazines in for grading. Thank you!

I have several Magazines graded in 2024 that are banana bent. One is a 9.6 (highest census) with black cover that when I first got it was OK then 4 months later several color breaking bends developed.

Keep in mind at this juncture if they fix the issue which they have never admitted exists it opens them to potential liability. Thus they must keep damaging a majority of high grade books and mags in order to show it's all well and good.

Submit at your own peril. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me applies

I can emphatically say that I have not gotten even one banana from all my submissions over the last four years. Of course, the fact that they all went to CBCS might have something to do with it.

Somebody up there said it... Buyer Beware!!!

I'm sure it is within the acceptable damage range for a 9.6. Good for the seller to leave homeboy holding the bag.
