Pick one - Double Cover 7.0 raw or 9.2 slab?2155

Collector Darkga private msg quote post Address this user
Quick question... There is a Silver Age book I'm looking at, and I have two choices that are about the same price.

A) Double cover 7.0 or so raw

B) PGX 9.2 slabbed

For the same money, which would you pick? In either case I would submit them to for grading. Thanks!

If you like the book, why not buy both?

Is the inner cover also a 7.0 or is it better? I believe graders base the grade on the inner cover. If the inner is a 7.0, then there is a big difference between 7.0 and 9.2, so I would go for B.

That said, some people like collecting double covers for the novelty value. Maybe you are one of these people...

Why buy PGX anything?

Personally, I'm a big fan of double cover books. Love seeing printing errors like that. Not at all a fan of PGX so I would typically steer clear.

It's a personal key book, but my comic budget has run low. Outer cover is a 7.0ish, inner cover is clean. I like error comics, but was if wondering overall condition outranks the error. I'm leaning more towards the double though.

Tough choice, but I would gamble on the double, especially if you think the inner cover might just be 9+. In that case you always have the option of doing something *controversial

If you do buy the double cover book, please do not take shrewbeer's idea and rip the outer cover off. Good lord!

I'd go with the double cover SA.
And what Jerkfro said, PLEASE.

Tearing the cover off would mess that comic up. You would have to remove the staples first. Which they kind of consider restoration if they notice it.

@Draco there was a thread on there a few months back someone describing how they did it, I dont think it involved taking staples out though.

Put a face to the question.

Batman 227 PGX 9.2

or

Batman 227 double cover raw grade around 7.0

My decision would be the double cover. You can find that book in 9.0/9.2 any day. But how often can you find a double cover Batman 227?

Keep in mind, there is a decent chance that PGX 9.2 is gonna be a CBCS 8.5, so depending on how strictly you are grading the raw 7.0, I'd personally go for the double cover for the rarity of it.

Double covers, NDS and Mark Jeweler's inserts and even some of the lesser inserts they all add something different to an otherwise mass produced issue. So yeah I'd take the double cover any day of the week.

My 2 cents. I would buy the PGX. It most likely will regrade with CBCS 8.5 or higher. Double Covers are not much in demand.

I bought Silver Surfer #1 PGX 9.0 I'll let you know what it comes back, CBCS is regrading it.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to make a play for the double cover. I'll keep you posted if he accepts my offer.

It's Daring Adventures #12 featuring a Joe Simon cover and reprints of Golden Age Phantom Lady (Matt Baker art). It's not an important book to most, but it will go well in my Phantom Lady/Matt Baker collection.

This is the outer cover. Do you think I'm close with the 7.0?

Cool. And that is the double cover. That's awesome.

Got a pic of the side profile? I see something suspect that I have some experience with. Those books used to be delivered in bundles tied with string (or wire sometimes). This book looks like it was on top of the bundle. 4 dents lined up with each other, and if thats the case the dents could go very deep into the book.

Good catch! Can those press out?

Very difficult. I would defer to @CFP_Comics on that question. He has mine now and has been having a helluva time with it as the dents went halfway through the book

Wow I just saw this, Quituple Cover! How does QC let a 5 cover issue get released. I wonder what is the most covers on one issue? 10 maybe?

A lot of double cover scammers as of late so I would pick the 9.2

@KingNampa Why would they catch these? Those books come off the presses fast and then get bundled up. You want them poking their grimy fingers through every copy to prevent extra covers? No book would ever grade 9.8 ever again.
