![]() ![]() Okay! So here we go! These are the good books, I had a gut feeling these would go up a grade and I was pretty dead on. Would have hoped for a 9.8 on the 361 but that's the game . |

![]() These are the "meh" books. Both of these were cgc 6.5's. Half a point isn't bad but I would have liked it going the other way. |

![]() Last but not least of the six books are the wtf's... My daredevil seven was a cgc 5 5. How the hell they missed all the defects that dropped this a whole grade down is mind boggling. The secret wars 8 was sent in raw( didn't trust cgc with that) and was purchased as an 8.0. After a pressing it retained the same grade??? I'm not knocking our graders because I trust cbcs 100% so I appreciate them being honest. I was sure this would have jumped up to a 9.2. I'll check the notes. Overall, I'm very pleased in just the way they present in our case. Total upgrade, regardless of the number. ![]() ![]() |

I have been converting cgc books to cbcs for a while now and I have had some up, some down but most have stayed the same. As far as I'm concerned; cgc is dead to me. I can get everything I need from cbcs. ![]() |

![]() First - Uncanny X-Men (2024) #1 NYCC 2024 Matthew DiMasi Shattered Foil Variant - This is the first issue of Gail Simone's current run, and I bought it because I had seen the original physical piece at Terrificon last year, so when NYCC came along, I scooped it up online. I sent this one in as-is. ![]() ![]() Continuing the UXM trend - Uncanny X-Men #145 - The spine on this one was perfect so I wanted to get it pressed and sent in, and holy geez the job they did! It's CRISP and beautiful! I am very happy with the 8.5. ![]() I was SHOCKED that this X-Men #137 Newsstand got an 8.5 as the thick spine was starting to cave-in on itself in the middle. (Does anyone else have a copy that exhibits this?) I originally bought it at one of the New Haven shows last year - first to a booth to pick and immediately grabbed it. Pressed, which looks great in the spots that absolutely needed it. Some spots could not be pressed out obviously - like the bottom left corner where it looks like it has been poked with a thumbtack or something. Held it for 15 minutes just staring into the cover - one of those kinds of books. ![]() Absolute Batman #1 - I know this is overplayed at this point but I did it on a whim and got it pressed because my personal notes said "Probably a 9.6 without pressing". Was actually surprised this was a 9.8 as there is scuffing on the spine and edges. Will put this next to my Ultimate Spider-Man #1. ![]() Freddy vs Jason vs Ash (of Army of Darkness): #1 Second Printing - Did not think that this would get over a 9.0 with the spine tics so the pressing was definitely worth it here. |

I had some raw graded books that I wanted slabbed, so I incidentally did a grading consistency test. They were pressed this time as well. Despite the press, X-Men 25 went from 6.0 to 5.5. X-Men 27 went from 7.0 to 6.5. X-Men 31 went from 5.0 to 6.0, so I know where those two half points went. Nothing special overall but happy to have them back and matching their brethren in plastic suits. |

First of all the cool 9.8's:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now for some that fell slightly short of my expectations: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was just a reholder, so no surprises here: ![]() This was a major disappointment. It was a CBCS 9.4 when I sent it in. I thought with a press from CBCS it could hit 9.6 or even 9.8. It came back down 2 grades..... ![]() ![]() |

I have a hard time understanding how a book sent in for a press goes down from the initial grade by the same company? Did they find new flaws that they missed the first time it was graded, did it deteriorate or get damaged while it has been in the case? Very curious as I was considering having some pressed and regraded as well. | ||

Quote:Originally Posted by Rbolton Different graders can hand out different grades. There is at least one grader there that seems to like to bring the hammer down on books. There is also more than one person pressing books. I don't believe all of them are on the same skill level. If you get the right combination of presser and grader, then it's great. If just one of them is off, then it can still be okay. If you get the so so presser and the hammer down grader, it's not going to be the outcome you were hoping for. Oh, and happy birthday. |
