So to sum up, the price point is too high and this thread is getting too long...

@SteveRicketts saving only $6 versus a slab and restoration check is not an atractive price point at all. I really hope CBCS reconsiders the pricing on this. I was digging the prospect of this service, but these prices don't make logistical sense. Also the return shipping costs need to be substantially less than slabbed.

Great idea for some books in the collection, price is announced, and we're all dropping like flies lol

If the resto check had been left in place maybe. But to lose that check and the encapsulation? That's loosing way more than $6 worth of value in my eyes.

I just found out about this and already see hundreds of posts today...I went straight to the last page and this post summed it up very well. I would add my suggestion if the service is not for you, don't buy it or buy comics that use it...the market will determine if the price and what you get for it is worth it. I will say that if I was looking at two comics listed as "NM+" and one had the CBCS 9.6 and the other had nothing else other than pictures, all other things being equal (including price) I'd opt for the one that was graded...just saying...but I would also say I'd pay even more than $6 for one slabbed.

Hmmm so if you turn in a raw grade it's only 10$ right? I mean it's been graded already and stickers intact. But since no rest check doubt that will be avalible

Will there be Yellow and Red Label options? Can this be used for TPB's? What is the expected savings in shipping costs?

Comic Books, Magazines, and Treasury edition books can all be graded under the Raw Grade service.

Guess so..

I don't see any discount on shipping, which is pretty shocking.

Which is an even bigger deal breaker than the $10 pricing.

Agreed. Even at $5.00 for a raw grade, $23 shipping would be ridiculous for raw books.

As a retailer... if they could include Yellow and Red Label options... include automatic fast pass in the $10 fee... offer this option for TPB's... and get shipping prices down... then this could be awesome.

I have some signed and slabbed modern books that I can't give away much less make a profit on... however if I can get my "slabbing" costs cut in half by using this service... then that could be a game changer for my stores.

Do you think they can come out with an even cheaper alternative? Just put the sticker directly on the front cover of the comic without the mylar bag. $2 a comic? Call it "BareBack Grading"

What is CBCS's clients Kryptonite?

..... Change ...

Seriously, there is no business that exists that has all it's consumers (and employees) agree with everything the business does. As stated above, if you don't like the idea or have a problem with the price, don't use the service..pure and simply.

Now it is my hope that while CBCS continues to find new and inventive ways to "improve the collecting experience" that they do not jeopardize or compromise the Quality and Trust that they have worked so hard to establish with all of us.

Hang in there CBCS

They have to change. The market is flooded with signed/slabbed books and prices have plummeted in the last year. I think this can be a step in the right direction... but it needs to include what I outlined above (IMHO) in order to make it worthwhile to businesses to participate.

@CosmicReads

Retailers are the only people I can really see benefiting from this. In bulk the savings can pile up. Now the question being will it really add the same value as a slab I say not. I can still damage it taking it on and off the shelf for 3-6 months till it sells is it still that 9.8 maybe, maybe not. Now if they do vsp and yellow labels that would be interesting. Mostly for the yellow because I don't want to slab it after I get one signature and still want another at a later show just to crack it and reslab to retain the yellow label.

@BigRig Agreed... it has the possibility to work really well for just moderns (again IMHO)... I think older books we would still want slabbed for preservation... but moderns... most customers just want to see that they are authentic signatures... then they want to read the book.

I actually want this service, but at that price point it's defeating it's own purpose. It's purpose is for books which don't justify slabbing cost. But to get slab and resto check for only $6 more? It's not a wide enough margin to not just go ahead and slab anyway. And then you're back to the square one of "is this book valuable enough after slabbing to warrent the cost?" And the answer is no, so you end up not grading it at all. It's a self defeating prophecy in its current configuration.

@CosmicReads with a $250 cap I would say it will mostly be moderns
