No, this is news to me. Where's the Newsletter?

I think Ricketts is hunting and pecking it out...

They are based in Florida. I don't think anyone in Florida recycles. They probably throw all the used mylars in the swamp behind the warehouse.
I live in Florida about 20 mins away from cbcs and in my city we have a 67% of our citizens recycling. And tonight ill go check the cbcs dumpsters and see where those bags hiding (not really).

There is obviously a lot of concern about the potential for fraud. If people have found ways to tamper with slabs, how much easier is this going to be?

@Foghorn_Sam I'm still waiting for someone to disassemble and reassemble a CBCS slab without tamper evidence and put it on YouTube. Until that day I have faith in their slabs being tamper evident.

I'm waiting on the developers to tell me they've flipped the switch to turn the submissions on. As soon as I get the word, I'll push the button to send the newsletter.

I'm headed home. Hopefully they'll have it ready by the time I get there.

Tamper resistant, yet still easy to crack open FOR THE PURPOSE OF "LIBERATION".
Perfect combo CGC's new slab looks like a bear to crack open

A bit. Is any of the scrap exposed to something your employer wouldn't want to leave the premises? Some of our innocent looking scrap is in contact with various chemicals at some point.

Stay on topic Gents. Or your stuff keeps getting deleted. Go make a thread about that elsewhere.

Lol. Close. We make books. Not comic books sadly. Graphic novels yeah but that's not the same.

Back to the topic at hand I think I would use the service of the price is right. I would think shipping would be cheaper on only raw graded but probably not...

What does everyone think the right price point for this service should be? I would be good at $10. Other opinions?

I'd prefer something around $6-$8

On further reflection, if they're not doing resto-check, $6 to $8 is a good price point.

@zosocane I was thinking like $5 for a modern given the lack of encapsulation, lack of restoration check, and vulnerability to damage/change of grade.

I may be on the low end but I'd be fine if they had a minimum of like 10 books or something

So slabbing is $16 or $18. It seems to me that the most expensive parts would be the actual slabbing process and materials. Without the slab, it seems like it should be less than $10 easy. Its basically a spot check and a sticker.

I think the return shipping is what will kill this as an attractive option. Send in 20 books for raw grades, it'll cost more in shipping than grading fees. I've said before that shipping is what prevents me from slabbing more as it is.

I'm hoping for $4-$6, something similar to grade screening cost

Collector zosocane private msg quote post Address this user
Although, at $5 for a raw grade, I could see the CBCS table at cons being completely overwhelmed, impossible to get through to leave books for slabbing.

It's difficult to postulate without knowing the costs of this new service but I'll hazard a guess that the shipping costs will make it an unfeasible proposition to those of us on this side of the pond.

For my own twopenn'orth if the seals are solid then I could envision someone slitting open the bottom edge and doing whatever nefarious deeds that could be done and then re(heat?)sealing it. A way around this would be to fold tamper-proof labels around all four edges.

Having said that I concur with those who agree with the service as a cheaper alternative to slabbing, so my vote would be a positive. Lets see before we write the idea off.

Another five bucks and you can have it slabbed.

Just for reference, MidWest Comic Grading charges $12-$15/modern for a similar service

EDIT: Actually, it looks like they're $8-12. I was visiting the site on my phone so the formatting was thrown off
