I actually want this service, but at that price point it's defeating it's own purpose. It's purpose is for books which don't justify slabbing cost. But to get slab and resto check for only $6 more? It's not a wide enough margin to not just go ahead and slab anyway. And then you're back to the square one of "is this book valuable enough after slabbing to warrent the cost?" And the answer is no, so you end up not grading it at all. It's a self defeating prophecy in its current configuration.

@gary_k Yeah if it takes an hour to grade one book... then that is not even minimum wage.

Who says that $10 is what the dealers end up paying? When they get discount on slabs - why wouldn't they get discount on this service?

@KingNampa It has to take longer than that.. maybe less than an hour... but they have to check for any little ding on 30 pages... plus check for restoration... plus doesn't CBCS have multiple graders check each book?

My biggest concern is the no resto check. Theres gonna be a lot modern 9.8 books with color touched spine tics making their way inside them bags...

Also trimming! Lot of Trimmed books will be graded way higher this way. Those evil sellers will be able to trim crappy books and get the higher grades cause they will never check for it.

The no resto check is definitely an issue. Trimming is an excellent point!

I really really really want to like this Raw Grade option... I see it has potential to be a big step up from COA's... however... there are still some bugs that clearly need to be worked out. Which, in all fairness, is the case whenever you introduce something new.

Went out and had a nice dinner with the family on a Friday night. I had some time to digest this and my food. I will say good luck with this CBCS I hope this helps your company grow. Although this is a service I will not be using it will in no way adversely effect me in any way where I will be changing the way I submit books. Again good luck and congratulations

An experienced grader takes less than a minute to grade a comic. Resto check and page count takes about 30 seconds each (separate from grading), so if you're 2 minutes into a book, you've spent too much time on it.

Most comics can be graded in 20-30 seconds.

Reflect on this question.

What is the purpose of sending a comic book to a professional grading service?

To get an educated non bias opinion of condition and authenticity?

Irrelevant. I have never been known as a professional or even amateur grader. I surely would never pay for my opinion, and would suggest others to not pay for it as well.

Irrelevant to what? I was just asking you how long you take when you're grading a book. I know you're not a professional grader. The majority of the people posting here are not professional graders.

I guess you don't know what I mean by "amateur grader" either.

My 8.0 might be someone else's 6.0 and vice versa. I am not a great grader, so IDK how long it would take me to grade a comic book like someone whose job it is. It could be 20 seconds, it could be 4 minutes. I wouldn't ever depend on my own eye when I could easily be proved wrong by an experienced eye.

But if you absolutely need a hard answer, take the "4 minutes" as a hard answer, even though it really isn't.
