Salvation Army finds21490

Went to Salvation Army and found some goodies. Also I noticed a few of the comics were bigger than silver bag and boards I have anyone have info on that. Like Space Ghost won’t fit in a silver bag and board.

@Zombie_Head I have a couple early silver books like your Space Ghost; that are larger like Gold Age. I wasn’t alive for either. A transition period in the standard sizing perhaps; like silver to bronze/modern?

@Zombie_Head nice find. Coolest thing I’ve seen at the SA here is a Laser Disc player that probably didn’t work and had the antenna connector instead of coax or A/V plugs.

Congratulations!

That Munsters #1 looks like it’s in decent shape. I’d be interested if you wanted to sell. Just throwing it out there.

All of those books have some value, with the Munsters and Space Ghost having significant value. Up until about 1962 Dells/ Gold Keys were wider than most silver age contemporaries. They eventually trimmed the width back to match what other publishers were offering (and reduce costs, of course). Sweet find!

The Space Ghost is the best of the lot; first appearance of Space Ghost in a comic book.

Look it up in GPA....

The Munsters #1 is a fairly close second.

Boh of these 2 book pret high grade.

Hard to tell on the Munsters 1 given it's not a black cover but it looks up there....and the Space Ghost look like it may be capped at an 8.0 to 8.5 with a press.

Of course, I'm just going by front cover grading of the books in a bag and board, but still....this is pretty unbelievable.

I've only tried Goodwill a handful of times, and have never seen silver age keys, let alone in high grade.

Early Gold Keys were Golden Age size. 1962 to 1965. They really stood out on the newsstand with their painted covers and larger size. Just as cool were pin up back covers and NO ADVERTISING inside their books. They stood out for the same 12 cents as everyone elses books.

I don't live near a salvation army but do check my local Habitat for humanity (never have comics but do have tpbs) and a store called 2nd and Charles that basically a book store that buys/sells new/used books, and collectables including many long boxes full of comics (some graded). they do sell keys but I guess because of value you have to request them (they have a binder listing the good stuff)
