Question on consignment with MCS21481
My Chihuahua is watching me in case I do something cool. | ICConquest private msg quote post Address this user
I’m considering trying some consignments with Mycomicshop.com I think I will choose check or PayPal for any sales. It doesn’t look like I get more credit than cash like if I sell to them directly. Should I expect my items to be listed in a week or 2 after they arrive to them? Honestly just looking for advice, what my expectations should be, Any tips? Thank you. |

Depending on the quantity of what you are sending, and whether they are books they have in their database versus new items that need to be added to the database first, then it can take 2 weeks. Not shorter than that. It can take a little longer, too, when bad whether occurs or holidays, it can slow things down. Just be patient, and keep an eye out for their emails letting you know when you can go in and add prices. I go with a check payment, because you don't give up any additional points to Paypal. If you don't need the money immediately, then check payment is the way to go. Price fair, and your stuff should sell decently. And you can add a "Make an offer" threshold, which I recommend offering. You will get the chance to approve or decline or counter any offers that pass your threshold. And I am consistently surprised at how few actually make offers. Stuff usually sells for full price. Hope that helps. |

Glad I found this. Thanks for the insight. I’m thinking about sending some of mine. E-Bay seems like it would take up a lot of time for my schedule. Any other MCBS stories? If there’s another thread, could you point me to it? If I was more tech savvy I’d look myself. I still have posts to reply to and haven’t.

Quote:Originally Posted by ProdigalSon It's 10%, much lower than feebay. If you sell at auction it's 8%, minimum $5 commission on any sale. You have to send them the items though. There are other sites where you can keep the item(s) in your possession and mail it to them when they sell, but these sites have far less visiblity than MCS since MCS also crosslists your item(s) on ebay. The other upside to MCS is that they're driving distance to CBCS, so they'll pick up your orders if you'd like to consign with them, instead of having to pay extra shipping charges. |

Heck, in my opinion, sending them the stuff is one of the best parts because you don't have to deal with shipping at all. They do it all.

I've auctioned through MCS a number of times and it's a smooth process. Waiting for check-in does seem to take a while so I wouldn't recommend it if you need money fast. That goes double because people have two weeks to pay (and then they have to cut the check) if you auction. I actually just sent some things in and got the "we've started check-in" email on Friday; I can update when I get the next notice.

I really like MCS. They picked up 48 books from me on the way back from NYCC last year. I've sold 23 of them to date. I average a check a week. I even got a P.O. box for the check delivery. Personally, I would stay away from the Make an Offer option. I had three non-paying buyers in a row and they all came from accepted offers. Their customer service is second to none. You actually feel like they appreciate your business as opposed to some of those other places who believe you should be thanking them for the privilege of doing business. Plus, I trust them. I don't feel as though they just waiting for me to turn around so they can give me the big screw. I have a lot more books I need to send their way. |

I justed sold another one, so I'm at 24/24. Also, the commission isn't just a flat 10%. Available to all CGC and CBCS graded comics, as well as unslabbed comics valued approximately $50 or more 10% commission on sales up to $300, 8% on portion beyond $300 Commission capped at $1000 Minimum commission $5 for slabbed comics. |

@manfred_spain I accepted an offer but now I don't know what the next step will be in order to receive my payment. I see the consignment item and the date of sale but if I look in my completed sales history nothing is shown.

@SpiderTim How long has it been since you accepted the offer? Also, does it have a shipped to buyer date? Your best bet would be to email Andrea or Este at consign@mycomicshop.com.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? | Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@ICConquest @Herkzy - When I first started paring back my collection, I tried various avenues. Ebay, Heritage, ComicLink, ComicConnect, etc. The one I wish I would have immediately, was MCS. Unfortunately, it was over a year before I tried them. I say unfortunately because, by far they have been my best experience. I would have saved so much more time and netted out so much more money had I tried them early on. Their customer service is great. If there is some kind of an issue, they respond to it rapidly. Having them pick up submissions at CBCS is also a huge bonus. Again that is a massive time and money saver. Also, fixed price listings are also listed on ebay and probably a good half of my sales are via my MCS listings bought via the MCS Ebay store. Without all the ebay hassle!!! As far as the offer toggle, I have it on almost all of my fixed price listings. Occasionally there is the non-payment, but it is the exception (at least for me). Once they have comics in hand, it can be as little as a few days before they are ready to list or it can be several weeks. Just really depends on their work flow at the time. @SpiderTim - Once you have an item sold (whether by auction or buy it now), it won't show up in your Sale s history until it is both paid and they have shipped it out and thus sent you a check or credited your account. They typically sweep payments once a week on Tuesday or Wednesday. Note to all: If you are likely to buy something from MCS, you may want to keep some of your proceeds on deposit (credit) at MCS as this will allow you to also avoid the small 3% MCS Buyers fee when buying on MCS. Lastly, Este and Andrea (MCS Consignment Department) are great! |

I’m on MCS all the time. I actually won a 9.8 X-Men CBCS slab right before New Year’s. It surprised me because I didn’t expect to win for the bid I placed. Everything went well and shipping was top notch. I keep waiting for them to make an app for the phone. Their website is kinda small for these eyes.

I usually go with them picking my books up from CBCS and then leave a credit. Sure I'm missing on interest but when I buy I save on the buying fee - I figure I need to leave the $ there as a credit because if I got it as a cheque I'd do something stupid like spend it on household expenses vs on a comic!!! |

Right, no surprise. Just letting folks know if they didn't. Even though I can't price them yet, I can see the grades that MCS has given the books. They were CBCS raw graded and MCS marked them lower.

That's to be expected. They do that so there are fewer returns. Almost every raw book I've bought from mcs has gotten a grade bump after grading. Only 1 book that I recall did not. I remember posting thinking there was no way it was under graded. And it came back as the posted grade even after a press.

I've had great success buying raw 8.5s per MCS standard grading and getting bumps to 9.8 after a press.
