Was only a matter of time, I have mostly mixed reactions towards Diamond. Mostly unhappy with how items were shipped and when they arrived.

Where is the Government Bail out for this Company ?
I'm all for companies that we use getting a hand, using OUR Tax dollars... As for other BS companies and countries, I have no use for that...

The letter below was shared with their customers

Dear Valued Customer,

I’m writing to share one of the most challenging messages of my career.

Earlier today, Diamond made the difficult but necessary decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This step is intended to stabilize our financial foundation and protect the most vital aspects of our business.

This decision was not made lightly, and I understand that this news may be as difficult to hear as it is for me to share. The Diamond leadership team and I have worked tirelessly to avoid this outcome but the financial challenges we face have left us with no other viable option.

Chapter 11 will provide us with the opportunity to restructure and address our financial obligations. This process will likely include the sale of key assets of Diamond Comic Distributors.

We have already received a commitment from Universal Distribution to purchase Alliance Game Distributors coupled with a signed Letter of Intent to purchase Diamond UK, and we remain committed to pursuing offers for all Diamond lines of business.

Are these guys also affiliated with CGA (Collectible Grading Authority)? I have a bunch of original ESB and ROTJ figurines I am in the process of submitting to be graded.

Never mind...

... In addition to securing DIP financing, and a stalking horse bid for Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond has received strong interest in its specialized business divisions, having also entered into a Non-Binding Letter of Intent (LOI) with Universal to acquire Diamond UK. Diamond is actively pursuing offers for, and has received interest from potential purchasers for, its other business units, including Diamond Book Distributors, Collectible Grading Authority, and Diamond Select Toys, as well as its main comic, toy, and collectible distribution lines...

I may hold off submitting them until the dust settles...

Not surprised.

There's Random house that distribute marvel books and they don't charge shipping as they distribute books in general to book stores.

Then there's Lunar that distribute DCs and I'm led to believe their shipping charge isn't too high.

Most savvy comic book stores use Lunar and Random house for the main companies and use Diamond for the independents.

Helping out at a comic shop that sells new books I see some of this and the way all three companies pack and ship new books.

Diamond has been an incompetent mess for twenty years. The loss of monopolistic control over the distribution of new books was probably always going to lead to this. I feel bad for the small shops and publishers who are going to get hurt even more if distribution falters.

My friend in Stanton Island says 50% or more of the books shipped by Diamond always arrive damaged. Making for a nightmare to get a credit. He has to destroy the books and show evidence before they will send him a credit.
This is probably a widespread issue. Thus a huge loss to Diamond.
Could be a contributing factor to their filing chapter 11.......

It was nice though to have the one big book monthly to see just about everything that your lcs could order for you...seems like it will be less easy to find new stuff?

I stopped sending in toys to CGA once their prices skyrocketed a year or two ago. Shame..I did like their service.

Comics books need to be back on spinner racks in the drug stores and markets. That's were I bought mine. Out of sight. Out of mind.

Thx for the feedback.. I was looking at the grading price and its $70 per figurine. Add in shipping there and back plus insurance and I'm looking at almost $90 per figurine... That's insane!

If someone else buys them I would love to see grading at a reasonable cost

My fondest memories are picking up a comic book at 7/11 on the way to work with my Dad (when I was too young to be in school). Crazy to think that doesn't happen anymore. Especially considering that in other countries it's one of the primary distribution methods to the public. Some even get their own variants.

Dollar stores, 7-11s, market stores are the way to get books into the hands of kids to read.
Somewhere in the last 40 years that deteriorated. And it's ashame it did

@flanders had a good post of a video a while ago. Comics are alive and well..just they are in graphic novel form and sold through Scholastic (Bone, Miles Morales etc) The art form is alive and well...the big publishers just don't know how to connect to the kids of today. Sell them GNs now and maybe they will pickup single issue comics when they are older...next to zero chance of kids getting single issues under the lcs model

Taylors newsstand and ice cream shop was the only place in our town with comics (3000ish people) . They only had a double row wall mount display...good times!!

No thanks. Although there are many fond memories of the spinner rack, I DON'T miss the crease on the left spine due to kids thumbing through the books to see the issues behind the front copy.
