While they were a blight on the hobby for a while, they sure were fun! Here’s the first one to come to mind for me: ASM 375.

For me it's easy. Mine's not foil but it's very gimmicky. Still cool though.

When I was a kid in the 70s, I loved Colorforms sets. I still do, although I don't own any.

For those of you too young to remember, here's a link to explain what Colorforms were. They still exist although I think they were cooler back in the day.

In the 90s, DC published Superman: The Man of Steel #30 with a Superman vs. Lobo Colorforms cover. It allows you to create your own fight scene over and over.

You had me at foil! When Chaos tried their own version of the X-Men, I loved it, and love this cover. But Detonator was short lived... I think this Hulk was one of the best effects though.
FOIL FOR LIFE!!!

Sure Valiant started the comic bubble but they had good stories and good art.

And while the story was … well … terrible, we’d be remiss not to give Venom: Lethal Protector #1 an honorable mention.

Quarter box special that 20 years later I made about 500 dollars off 3 that I had a couple years ago. Felt like the wolf of wall street

I don't buy many modern comics, but I had to pick one of these up when it came out. I had no idea it was foil until I received it.

One of the reasons I started this thread is, I’m thinking of getting a slabbed version of this guy for display:

Okay. I’ve definitely seen the sheet before while combing over collections, but not in context with the book. 👍🏼

Foil trumps gold, silver, and bronze. This is how you knew something was going to be a collector's item one day.

Some foil with a gatefold cover.

While the hologram covers were not my favorite (lack of detail) I only discovered Web of Spider-Man 90 has a 2nd print, with a gold hologram as opposed to silver, while researching for this thread.

I only found out there was a gold variant of X-Men 2099 #1 a couple months ago when watching LunchMoneyComics on YouTube.

How would that be graded if someone submitted it with the colorforms put on all over the cover? They're not permanent, so would the grader remove them from the cover?

@peterc777 I have absolutely no clue. Personally, I'd never have this book graded since that just takes away all the fun.

Unless the clings stick to the outside of the slab. I bet they would.
