Curious to see what kind of action this pulp gets, I think it's one of the few pulps that is genuinely a sleeper, see the Amazing Stories article below for why I say it's a sleeper.

And yes, I think most pulps are still inflated.

"Marvel Science Stories #1 August 1938 (Red Circle) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white to white pages. First issue. Norman Saunders cover. This title represents the first use of the "Marvel" logo, used on the cover of the historic Marvel Comics #1 that launched Timely Comics a little over a year after this issue hit the stands. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition VF value = $300. CGC census 1/25: 1 in 8.0, none higher."

You’re welcome.

I snagged a copy missing the back cover in a mycomicshop auction not quite a year ago for what I thought was a steal….dont recall offhand but I know it I won it for under $100.

I am putting together some Rae’s and slabs for a CGC forum sales thread and was thinking of putting my .5 copy up for sale in that thread, found that heritage preview yesterday and figured I’d post about it.

I think I will hold off on listing it for sale until the Heritage auction ends, may just end up holding onto it for a while considering how little I have into it.

You of course may feel differently, but I like to hang onto weird and unusual stuff, especially if it's not that valuable.

I am a massive hoarder and I like to hang onto just about everything I pick up.

I lucked out on the .5 copy I won in that MCS auction, in two ways.

First, in the sense it didn't cost me much.....

(Which BTW, is what MCS auctions tend to be prety good for. If you know what you're doing, you can buy raws and slabs in MCS, have them held for consignment by MCS, and make a decent profit consigning them via BIN or BIN/BO format as MCS mirror lists consignments on eBay which means a much wider buying pool for consigning them. Huge chef's kiss emojii would be appropos, right here )

Secondly, in the sense that when more collectors become aware of the significance of this pulp in relation to the Golden Age of Marvel comics, it has ample room to appreciate in FMV. Not that I expect to be able to retire from selling my .5 copy a decade from now, but it certainly has legs as far as historical sigfigance is concerned.

I also can't imagine another time where I could replicate snagging a copy that hss no missing pages or chunks out of the interior for the little amount I won it for, which also presents like a midgrade book when looking at the cover.

The main flaw on my copy is on the back cover, and I'd much rather have a key book that's complete and presents nicely, but has a flaw on the rear of the book.

IIRC, it was listed as something like "missing 2/3 of the back cover".

The Norman Saunders sci-fi GGA themed cover art doesn't hurt, either.

TL; DR long winded anecdote:
😅 ....

I sold virtually all my GA comics in the "golden age" of eBay auctions, which is what I view as late 1990's til around 2003. The period before the MCU film universe turned movie hype spec as the primary driver of the comic market.

Hell, I remember selling a Mask Comics #1 and a Mask Comics #2 on eBay via auction format in the late 90's....the same bidder won both books. I can't remember what they sold for, probably around double Overstreet because LB Cole was hot even back than and they were low grades, probably around GD's....so a few hundred bucks for both books, maybe $500 or so. *

*
I do recall the bidder messaging me to ssk me to pick the books up locally so I met him in front of the old Pennsuken NJ flea market as he requested....he paid me in cash for the Mask 1 and 2, and I recall him being happy as a clam; telling me something like he had been looking for these 2 books for a long time.

Timely, DC and GA like LB Cole cover books in Fair would get Overstreet GD prices or slightly above GD prices, and GD copies would fetch close to VG overstreet prices.

All I would do is buy SA/BA keys and whatever GA I could get as aggresively as possible at small cons in the morning, find one "goat" (a con dealer who was naive about eBay) at each con I waa set up at, a get a stack together for a few hundred bucks in cash, get the books as low as half overstreet.....and I'd buy long boxes at $10 to $20 per long box, sell 5 long boxes a week on eBay in auction for an average of $300 + media mail shipping, after culling anything worth culling

....than post a FC and BC scan and assign an accurate grade of the leys and GA books I would buy from the "goat", which was a nickname a friend of mine, whoo I occasionally partnered up with on spliyying tables at cons, came up with for dealers who were not particularly bright/market suave....and let them rip in 7 day ebay auctions.

I'd set up with a table full of 8 long boxes with $2.00 books that I culled out of long box bulk buys, and had 1 short boc of "priced as marked", one short box of "hot books (mostly junk 90's books).....

That's how I picked up pretty much every SA key there was and GA books like Marvel Mystery's, Cap's and double digit Bats, Tec, Action, Sups, GL, PCH was relatively easy to score at half Overstreet, as well....

All at an average of 50% to 60% of a book's FMV per Overstreet, at the time ....You can't do any of that shit anymore.

End of meandering TL/DR anecdote:

The point of which was really just to note, albeit in a sprawling and meandering manner such as this rant of consciousnesses  , just how damn unlikely it is to find GA books in the wild anymore.

As opposed to before CGC and the MCU transformed the market to being focused on superhero movie speculation.

My indulgence for that noastalgia aside, finding a pulp like this reminds me of the period I was able to pick up a $1000+ worth of SA keys , PCH, EC's and "run" issues of legit GA DC and Timely comics for around $500 on a weekly basis, or "half Overstreet"
