PEDIGREED... Again! martymann private msg quote post Address this user
I doubt if I'm alone, but I must confess that as a kid I never bothered
to read any of the 2-page text stories in my comics. I read every
word of the ads but just ignored the "2-pagers".
While looking through my CAPTAIN MARVEL ADVENTURES #59 the title of the
"2-pager" caught my eye..."FARMER BOY" by J.B. Magill. For the very first
time I stopped and read it and to my surprise enjoyed it.
Now it looks like I have an additional 750+ stories to read.

@martymann Amazing what a dime could buy you back then.
So when you had a few dimes, and you opted to buy something other than comics, what were some of your favorite things to get back then?

The only other true passion I had were BARCLAY LEAD TOY SOLDIERS.
These 3 and a half inch gems which were available in every Dime Store
toy department were incredible. I collected and played with enough of
them to fill two large tin cans still around each packed in a sandwich
bag to keep the paint from flaking off...wonder I didn't get lead poisoning.

I know you had tons of imaginary war fun with them.

I had the small 2" green plastic army men. Indestructible.
They quickly gave way to Hot Wheels & Matchbox cars, then bicycles.

As I'm planning to attend the SARATOGA COMIC CON on the 13th I wonder
if any dealers on the Forum are taking part in this event...I want to
be sure to visit them and say hello.

@martymann Great talking with you today! What a wonderful journey you have had in comics! I am so happy you still have the passion of a "reader" of these fantastic books! Don't ever lose that my friend....

Back from the SARATOGA COMIC CON...very few dealers and very little GA books.
Did talk to one dealer who had a CGC Graded copy of ZAGO #1 asking $475 for
this 8.0 copy. Said he had it for quite awhile with no one showing any interest
in it.

One of my all-time favorite covers from the time period!

I helped Chuck sell the Church copy about 10 years ago. It was a smoker!

It will be interesting to see what amount is bid for ALL WINNERS #4
CGC graded at 3.5 in Heritage's current weekly auction.
My copy is CGC graded at 3.0 (0199552001) was graded in January 2013.
This was the very first comic book I ever bought back in 1942.

That's awesome.
You must be in a very small group that can make that claim.
All of my first comics were discarded by mom as many others.
