Just pulled out my copy of HEADLINE COMICS #16 with the origin
and first appearance of ATOMIC MAN...might be the first ATOMIC
Superhero. Always fun to find something new in my collection.

It was just about now, some 80 years ago, that I bought my first
comic book off the newsstand...ALL WINNERS #4 (See page 31 #661)
still a Classic Cover.

That's kind of mind-blowing Marty. The idea that you could crack that slab today and read the very same copy that you bought at a newsstand in 1942.

That’s unbelievable and an amazing book. I can only imagine the stories you can tell about life.

Underrated cover! Robin is such an under appreciated character within the hardcore golden age collector community. Robin has existed with Batman in the cannon longer than Batman's pre Robin days by YEARS! The character inspired countless sidekicks during the golden age. He is an historical super hero in his own right.

Always a pleasure for me to view this cover plus I appreciate
the comment from Sagii.

Sagii is 🤪 crazy. Robin is a terrible character and ruined the Batman comics for years. Being the inspiration for countless sidekicks is a bad thing, not good. Doiby Dickles anyone? It's one reason Marvel kicked DC's butts when they started doing superheroes in the 60s - no sidekicks. Thank Jebus for Denny O'Neil, the man smart enough to send Robin to college. Can you imagine how cool the Batman stories would've been for decades if there never was a Robin? I wish I'd never seen a Robin baby-hands corner shock pose 😆

As an 9 year old in the mid 40's the idea of a young sidekick
to a SuperHero was a lot of fun to read.

@martymann love looking at your books.

I'm always amazed when you show golden age books and can remember where you bought them off the rack at the time they were new.
And the most amazing thing they you have kept them all these years 👍

I put this book on my want list at Mycomicshop.com. Such a great cover. In looking for it I noticed that Robin fights this Clock character several times on different covers. What's up with The Clock? Never heard of it before.

@martymann I collect a lot of “things” but some of what I value most isn’t really “worth” anything (and likely never will). Baseball cards bought at the corner store. Different era (80s) but perhaps similar experience. In my case it was walking or biking what seemed a long way. In reality, perhaps a mile. The little bit I had saved (more accurately the nickels and dimes I “collected” from under sofa cushions), I spent on the cheaper decks of cards. Donruss and Leaf… Still have most of them to this day. I’ll keep them and pass them along but really hard to convey the associated memories in the abstract…

Local comic shop to where my son was born actually gave me a few free unopened decks from that period. Worth maybe a buck or two but I opened one and the rekindling of memories was worth a lot to me. Keeping a couple for my son. Not for any (financial) value but just to make the memory a bit more -tangible- …

You do a great job of sharing those memories with all of us through your comics and anecdotes.

@martymann I've been looking for some Clock covers on MCS and can't find any available. Sounds like a goofy character, but for some reason clocks make great covers. What's his story?

are too large for the Golden Age holder...they measure 7-1/2
