I am offering my REMAINDER copy of DETECTIVE COMICS #168 for sale
during the upcoming ComicConnect Auction.
I bought this copy in March 1951 at a corner store in Scranton,PA
...the store didn't sell new comics but had a box of these
remainder comics for a nickle each.
While I don't agree with it, the book has been graded as RESTORED
by CGC due to what they view as "color touch" to the cover. The
book was submitted to CGC by ComicConnect.
The JOKER Origin Page is in excellent condition.
I am truly looking forward to seeing how much interest there will
be in this book from my PARK AVENUE COLLECTION.

ComicConnect auction begins today at noon...
we'll see how this goes and maybe submit my TALES FROM THE CRYPT
#20 for the next auction. Except for the missing one third of the
front cover this book is in great shape...no blue ink on this one.

Hey Marty, do you have a specific comic cover that sticks in your memory as being particularly impactful to you as a kid? A cover that was so compelling or so haunting that it captured your imagination more than most? For example for me in early 1980's it was X-men 141, with Wolverine standing in front of the poster of all the dead or captured mutants in the future. The cover still sticks with me 40 years later. Anything like that for you?

Thanks for asking!
Saw this hanging by a clothespin in a store window on the way
home from school...hand to run home for a dime and hope it was
still there when I got back...always one of my favorites.

"The creators of SUPERMAN present their NEW HERO: FUNNYMAN"

Take a second to let it sink in. In retrospect that may be the single most poignant line ever printed on a comic book cover. Compelling, ridiculous, tragic, symbolic of the times...all in one. It encapsulates the early struggles of probably just about everyone in the industry from creators to editors to publishers. Everyone was just trying to find a way to make a dime in a difficult time...and the creators of Superman were now giving it a go with.....Funnyman.

I had no idea this existed. Thanks for sharing.

One of my first FOUR COLOR COMICS. From the Rack in the Toy
Department at W.T. Grants. While the cover is credited to
WALT KELLY I always thought the beautiful illustrations inside
must have been copied directly from original drawings for the
animated film.

I was thinking of Harley-Quinn of course, but then I noticed that the Harlequin dresses like the Trickster. I guess she was the inspiration for 2 future characters.

Enjoy your vacation, looking forward to seeing more.

Wlecome back, looking forward to seeing more covers.

If the All-Star 32 ever gets put into auction, please let me know. Between #23 and #32 I believe those two issues are the entire Golden Age existence of the Psycho Pirate. They are actually the only 2 Golden Age books that I hope to purchase in the New Year.

Thank you.
As these two books, ALL STAR #32 and GREEN LANTERN #24 are both
Christmas presents for my sons, I'll be sure to let them know
your interest.

If you aren't aware of it, there's actually an unpublished Gardner Fox scripted Golden Age Psycho Pirate story that they pieced together from the original art for an issue of Alter Ego: https://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=22

Thanks for the info, I will check it out. Honestly the only Psycho Pirate story I've ever actually read is where he was being used as a pawn in Crisis or one of those crossover stories. I just think the character has a unique Golden Age/Silver Age blended feel to him.

Then again you did mention that you got a daisy for Xmas. And I'm sure you were a happy kid getting that. And the theme is what Xmas means to you so on second thought leave the Daisy handbook in πŸ‘
