| I'm not a football fan but I have a question. When Kickers kick for field goals, What percentage of the time are they successful? It seems like it's 97%+ but maybe I'm wrong. But if it's a really high success percentage, shouldn't the league narrow the posts? |

| NFL Kickers Have a Leg Up in 2024 Discusses a little of the technique changing but also some stats on the kicking game. It wasn't that long ago when 50 yards was max range for most kickers. Narrowing the posts is like paying taxes. You're just being punished out of spite. |

| @figment That's interesting! @Studley_Dudley I was looking at from the point of view that kickers are getting better and better and therefore the task is less challenging. I was watching an NFL highlight reel and every kicker made their field goal.It made me think, from a fans point of view, there's likely no suspense when the field goal is being attempted...it's a virtual certainty it'll be successful....especially on the 1 point conversion. I was just thinking to add some tension to that part of the game, make the field goal attempt tougher for the much improved kickers....just a thought. |

| When the NFL moved the point after try from the two to the 20 yard line, there was a noticeable dip in the amount made. It went from 99.3% conversion in 2014 to 94.2% in 2015. There were a few seasons under 94% as well. Broken down further by team, this season, eight teams are kicking 100% on PATs, while three teams are completing under 90% of PATs. The 49ers blocked a PAT against the Lions last night that resulted in an exciting play. There's also only a handful of elite kickers (Butker, Aubrey, Boswell + a few others) and then a lot of journeymen kickers. The league wants more scoring, not less. Unless they increase field goal scores like 5 points for a 60+ yarder, then I don't see anything changing. I've also watched games where the kickers combined for five misses. It was more annoying than suspenseful. |
