Yeah I figured something moisture-related, just unsure how it would get there as I would never keep water around my books. I can't say it happened at CBCS after I sent it in as I suspect it happened much earlier. Could have been a sweat drop when I was bag/boarding comics long ago. Still, I should never submitted it to CGC hoping to get a higher grade, I should have been happy with the 9.6 it had. Gordon Gekko once said "Greed is good" but not in this case, I basically screwed myself. I ended up selling it for around $95 shipped on eBay soon after I got it back from CGC.

Can tanning occur after slabbing?

It can depending on storage conditions.

CBCS says Off-White/light tanning

CGC said, Page Quality CREAM TO OFF-WHITE

What's the difference because it sounds to be about the same and shouldn't cause a drop from a 7.0 down to a 5.5?

Obviously this is relevant only on a case by case basis... But if I were to have to make a broad statement, I would caution anyone of submitting a CGC graded book to CBCS if what they are hoping for is a grade bump. Even with pressing in some cases. Based on the CGC grading notes above: tears, chips, & creasing, I don't think pressing would have necessarily helped the grade of this book.

If you are looking for inner wells that protect the book, signature verification on previously unverified signatures, thicker slabs, or favor CBCS grading, then it may be worth considering the transition on something previously graded. But, if the grade bump is what you are hoping for, please use caution. Though both companies grade comic books, CBCS is not CGC. CBCS may have similar grading structures, but not all of the standards are the same.

I'm just trying to understand the drastic grade drop. It's very frustrating and costly. Your statement kind of blows my mind. Are you saying there is no industry standard for grading??? I thought the guidelines were supposed to take the subjectiveness out of the grading process. I also understand mistakes can be made that's why I asked you the question. I don't really have any other recourse do I?

Random Example: On new books printed with a digital code sticker for the redeemable online copy... If the digital code sticker is peeled or removed, at CBCS that is a grade deduction as it is considered a defect. Is it at CGC?

I am not trying to frustrate you, but I do understand that it is a frustrating situation. This is the reason for my initial post, to hopefully prepare for/avoid frustration going forward.

I understand. In my case I was just asking for another look and/or explanation. I'm not trying to stir sh*t up. Moaning, bitching and complaining sometimes makes me feel better. There's no shame in correcting a mistake...if there was one made.

I wish everyone at CBCS shared that same belief and passion for their customer base.

Tanning is not a reflection of page quality. You can have a book with tanning to the front, back, or both covers and still have off white to white or even white page quality. Cover tanning and page quality are two separate entities.

The Batman came in a bit lower. I thought it would get a 9.6.
The sketch cover Alex did was a 9.6/9.8. The Black makes it difficult to tell spine ticks.
Everything else is spot on.
I bought the venom books from Greg Horn at the Mega-Con years back and had him sign them all. They were pristine.
The cgc would have given them 10.9's lol....
