I'm In The Market for a new TV.21339

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
I'm looking at possibly buying a new TV. I haven't bought one in a while. My 65 inch LG crapped out on me.

I've owned/own Samsung, LG and Sony and I'm happy with all of them.

I'm looking for a 75 inch TV and want to take advantage of the Black Friday deals.

I'm seeing other brands at reputable stores (Best Buy, Amazon, Costco) but I'm not at all familiar with the brands....but prices seem good.

I'm really only concerned with picture quality. I have a sound bar sysyem. Every TV nowadays, I'm assuming are smart (Netflix, Prime ready/compatible etc.).

Is TCL and Hisense any good? Are they comparable to Samsung, Sony and LG in quality?

I have a hisense it's fine. No it's not comparable to the better brands. I don't care about pic quality a ton so for me it's fine. Honestly though I would just spend the extra couple hundred for a better one. I put that one in my kids room so it's good for that. Guest room, kids rooms etc.

I haven't had good luck with TCL. Between home and the rental cabins, I've had more of them konk out more than any other brand.

I'm also not a fan of any Amazon Fire TV. If you want to subscribe to say BritBox or Acorn TV, they want you to subscribe through Amazon which is more expensive than just subscribing straight through the provider. A sort of middleman situation, if you will.

I have bought several TVs made by Roku and so far I really like them.

I have a TCL 55 inch in my bedroom and it works fine. For the price at the time, it was definitely worth it. Black Friday 2 or 3 years ago.

I think if you stick to costco you have a revolving door to return if required. Costco is known to be lax in their return requirements. I don't know if their credit cards extend warranty like they used to tbough....

Good luck.

In my experience no is would not say picture quality is comparable to Samsung Sony and LG. I've had issues with LG smart TVs dropping internet connection with wireless and hardwire. And the interface it's a bit clunky. I'd go with Sony or Samsung. But if your have a 3rd party device you will be using for striking like a firestick or roku receiver than I'd say your safe with LG since it's cheaper of the 3. Look at refresh rate as well. The higher it is, the smoother the picture is on fast movements

My sister bought my parents an LG TV. We had trouble with it long before it finally bit the dust and it wasn't even used that much.

On my second LG OLED. Can’t beat the picture quality. Before OLED came along I only bought Panasonic Plasma TV’s. I would say LG is your best bet for OLED and Sony is your best bet for led.

I am on my 2nd Samsung 55".
1st one lasted 4 years. The 2nd one (current) is only 2 years old and the remote can no longer adjust the volume. Tech is coming Tuesday. If he can't fix it, they are going to replace it with a new one....
Definitely worth the money to get a 4 year insurance plan.

We have 3 LG’s a Sony and 2 Vizios, to me they all do the job, LG picture is probably the best, but Sony has lasted the longest.

I have a TCL Roku 55” 4k. All I can say is it’s good. I’ve been happy with it as my first 4k tv. I was going to get a Hisense but was convinced to go with TCL for gaming for mid grade display. Better/more up to date processing, deeper blacks, etc and it was a bit less expensive

I’ve had LG and Toshiba HD tvs and was real happy with those. The Toshiba is still going strong. I hate buying tvs because I’m picky. If cost wasn’t an issue I’d buy the latest LG or Samsung. I think they have been leaders for awhile now when it comes to tv technology. I highly recommend asking a rep in store about what they recommend for your wants/needs. At the very least they can steer you to a model in your price range that you won’t hate.

Check out rtings.com for TV ratings. Samsung, LG, and Sony will be the top but they test many TVs.

Have you looked at the curved screens? We have a 75 inch curved screen at mom and dad's house. It sits in a cabinet. It's great. I liked it so well that I put a 55 inch curved screen over the fireplace in the rental cabin. It was a big hit.

They are both Samsing TVs.

I loved the old Sony TV’s, but it’s been Samsung for the last 20+ years. I can’t think of any problems, except the oldest one is now pretty obsolete (but all 4 still function). For the kids we tried Insignia and Vizio brands, they worked okay, but lacked the picture quality of the Samsungs.

Echoing @esaravo we've had nothing but Samsungs for the last 10 years and have absolutely no regrets. The one Visio that Mom insisted on sounded like crap and only lasted four years.

Four Samsungs here, too. They've worked really well. The oldest one has to be at least 10 years old.

had a Hisense. picture started to go less then 2 years after buying. blue spots started appearing all over the screen. depending on scene, looked like I watching a live action smurfs. sold it (mentioned issues. it wasn't everywhere just areas) for cheap (someone didn't care, it was cheap)

I currently have a TCL Roku. great tv

I agree OLED is a game changer. It is worth the extra $$. Make sure you have a 4K blu-ray player with HDMi 2.2 cables as well.

QLED is the most advanced backlighting technology transmitting the image through an LCD

OLED is superior in that each pixel is illuminated by is own individual LED for unlimited color range and true blacks by turning off a LED when needed.

It is actually application-dependent once you get into similar or same price categories.

OLED has superior blacks because of the switching technology (per pixel emissive control) and QLED has better potential brightness and color vibrancy. So if a theater room that is blacked out or any dimly lit room, OLED. If a brightly lit family room, QLED.

Yes, OLED is absolutely better than Qled. The blacks are so black that you can’t tell the tv is on in a dark out room.

For about $1800 US, you can get a 75 inch LG or Samsung OLED. You won’t be disappointed.

OLED is my pick for a dark room and ignoring most budget constraints.

Based on the original post, seems best deal may be a big driver, in which case I’d consider all options.

Keep in mind OLED is susceptible to burn in. Likely won’t but it can.

My main TV is a TCL and they offer a lot of value for the price. OLED is for sure the very best, but mini LED /QLED can get close at a substantially lower price.

It really comes down to just how much you want to spend and if you are willing to pay a premium for the very best. All of my life I have been a "best bang for the buck" person no matter what the product. TCL and Hisense make "best bang for the buck" TV's. Which is why I own a TCL.
