I am currently about to begin creating a home office and looking for ideas -

I'm almost set on getting the FJALLBO from Ikea and going that way organization-wise, but would love to see others for inspiration.

Here are some pics of my home office/ man cave:
This is the view from the doorway:

Most of the hardcovers, trades and assorted other books are stored in the bookcases:

The dresser holds loose comics:

Long and short boxes are stored in the closet (with a few additional long boxes tucked behind the entry door):

This system works really well for me, although I am pretty maxed out on space as you can probably see.

ALRIGHT! Room is cleared, two-prong switched to three, and painted. Ready for furniture!
How would you guys design it?

I was thinking of getting one of these: https://a.co/d/hpG1yVW

That Amazon shelving is probably better than anything from IKEA. IKEA storage is not well known for stability and definitely not longevity.

Whomever bought that book on top of the bins that says, "HULK SMASH," has excellent taste.

That's great!!

Depending on your budget, consider something with doors you can lock. If theives get passed the locked doors, it will be immediately apparent to you.

Ikea build quality is highly variable (from junk to decent). I have some metal and wood (solid wood, though of course cheap pine) shelves that are well made (heck, I built them!) and have lasted years, with “real” use.

For their other offerings, important to see the construction and I always recommend adding dabs of wood glue in addition to their fasteners. Won’t make them heirloom grade but will allow you to put a lot more on them. I have one shelf that has an 85 inch TV and about 100 pounds of audio equipment on it, in addition to books and gaming systems. With the added glue it has been rock solid and anything short of a Hulk Smash isn’t taking it down.

That linked Amazon shelf looks poorly constructed. If going for shelving I’d source from Costco, Home Depot or make sure it is a well regarded brand name if from Amazon…

But those locks won’t stop someone for more than 30 seconds (if that)… and won’t you notice the absence of books on the shelf just as quickly?

The Fjallbo line from Ikea would look great and is solidly built based on my experience. That said, I don’t know if it would be suitable for box storage. Perhaps if using an alternative display it would work…

We have the same type of racks that @Bronte has, but without wheels. One big one and two smaller ones. They're not much to look at so they're all covered by tapestries.

@antoniofett Can you give us a rundown of the file cabinets models or brand if you know? Just ULINE?

When I lived in Boston, Harvard used to have every Thursday open at their surplus for the community to come grab retired furniture and such, and that was a GREAT resource for free furniture. Hell - the desk I'm typing on right now and two chairs in this current room are actually from their dorms!
