Garbage...I feel bad for the honest, hard working people at CGC who were let go and still work but it's become clear these people are the minority there.

Given the reputation of Blackstone, this should probably not come as a surprise as this is exactly what they do...they rip apart companies from the inside out, squeezing evey last penny out of them leaving a husk of the company behind....then they'll probably divest and leave.

I'm not sure what will happen to CGC but it sounds pretty dire.

I hope the company survives....gets a wake up call from this and gets back to the way they were in the 1999/2000 era.

This being said...you reap what you sow and I have zero sympathy for the bad actors that put CGC in this position.

The cgc has always been very clique-ish among the employees... and to a lesser extent with their favored submitters. Gift grades to favored dealers is nothing new. If you are part of the in-crowd, you can get just about whatever you want done.

The incompetence, the nonsense, the damages, the scandals simply cannot go on for years without an impact as small or large it may be. Combine that with the state of the hobby; particularly on the slab front and this was inevitable.

There was a graph someone posted on the CGC forum showing the decrease in submissions over the last few years. It was gruesome.

My membership will expire at the end of the month.I'm not sorry about it. I do feel bad for what is happening there because I'm sure those people have families, and the holidays are on the horizon. That's what happens when you prioritize bad business practices over quality. Sad.

With the economy in the shape it's been in, and layoffs and bankruptcies in the news every day for the past couple years, and companies like CGC inflating their sizes to cover for a Covid influx... and now the comic market dropping like it has been, leading to less reason to submit for grading... I think it's quite silly to reduce it down to "well that's Blackstone for ya".

That also doesn't explain why CBCS is also going through layoffs.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I logged in to my account with the cgc and turned off the automatic renewal. I meant to do it last year and forgot.

All valid points but one can not help but connect the sharp and severe decline in quality of product and service at CGC to the introduction of Blackstone ownership.

The reputation of Blackstone is well known. They care about ROI only....even if they have to bury the company they invested in, in the process.

Maybe these layoffs are or would have been a natural course of action given the the COVID highs and subsequent lows but you won't convince me that Blackstone didn't severely exacerbate the situation at CGC.

I doubt it.

I would like to see

A) total submissions
B) broken down by tier i.e. vintage, modern, comic/magazine, signature event, reholder etc. etc.

I would expect a decrease in older vintages of comics....even modern to an extent (would imagine comics at a stable or decreasing print runs industry wide) - you have variant flippers and speculators (which I'm sure is on the down swing with under performing tv/movie offerings)

In my mind this was always going to be a shrinking business. When were what we call comics popular....how many are in the wild...OG collectors are fine with a raw book i.e. I don't need a graded .5 to 4.0 of choose your grail - AF 15 say...I'll happily pay "less" for raw (lol...like I have $$ for even those grades!!)

Ok so this explains why all the CGC books I sent in have been bent and man handled, I knew there was no way a stack of 20 books all had the same bend in the same spot and still got 9.8s.

So in the end sticking with CBCS, cause CGC is burning to the ground and I dont see a way out. But of course all the resellers at cons will claim nothing is wrong so they can sell those fake key books influencers claim are worth every penny.

CGC will never go away as long as people that care more about their profit and less about a quality product keep using CGC for selling purposes and oblivious buyers keep purchasing these inferior products. I truly believe a lot of buyers have no idea of anything going on with CGC.

I agree with you that alot of buyers don't know what's happening at CGC but I can't imagine that CGC can continue like this indefinitely without the buying market eventually being significantly impacted. If the buying market is eventually impacted then the CGC loyalists will have to address it and do something about....possibly move business to CBCS or PSA.

There's no doubt CGCs product is inferior...by a large margin in my opinion. This can not be sustained without impact. Eventually the word will spread, maybe to the point of no return, unless CGC makes radical changes....and the CGC loyalists will have no choice but to change.

I do think that the people who are more interested in graded books will eventually make their way to one of the grading company's chat boards.

Hopefully, sooner rather than later. I consider myself fairly in the know, and I had at least one banana book. I can't imagine having thirty or so. I'd have a come-a-part.

Given all of this news about CGC I feel very fortunate to have gotten the grades I did on the four books I sent in for the Lynda Carter signing.

I had a couple questions for CGC when I was at Baltimore Comic Con and I have to say that the people they had in the booth that day were great.

Too bad things appear to have gone very wrong back at headquarters.

At the bottom, it says to contact Matt Edwards for more information. So I did.
Here is what I got back;
