Ok...so...I didn't notice on my last submission that some books got classified as 'Atom Age'

Umm...what is Atom age???

edit...Ohhhh...google says maybe 1945 or 1948 to mid 1950's???

Is this something we are calling out as its own now???

Was always just used to Gold, Silver, Bronze etc.....( Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme!!!)

Dang...if it is something then maybe I need to get some Atomic Bomb covers and send them in to get the Atom Age designation!!

The term has been around for a while. I thought it referred to books that were pre-Golden Age, but it appears to be a subset or period between Gold and Silver instead.

I never really paid it much mind as it wasn't something that I collected.

Platinum age is before golden age with Action 1 starting the golden age.
The atom age starts after the end of world war 2 with the invention of the Atom bomb.

In comics that's around 1948 with all the Atom bomb covers and that goes to 1955 as 1956 is Showcase 4 the start of the silver age

The modern age era parameters keep getting bigger/changing while all the other era's remain unchanged. That seems weird

I've always considered that the Silver Age ended in September 1970 with Fantastic Four #102, Jack Kirby's last issue on the title.

As I've mentioned before, I think different titles and different publishers enter the different ages at different points.

Huh, I never expected to use the word, different, four different times in a different sentence.

This is a perfect example of an atomic age book.

SA began in 1956, and 1953 is clearly not a golden age book.

Another example is EC horror.

GA is just that; Timely Cap’s etc.

Picture frame Marvels really became a thing on 20 cent covers…..Sub-Mariner has a lot of classic 20 center BA picture frames. Same thing with a decent amount of Marvel western 20 centers.

25 cent covers are towards the mid ramge to tail end of the Bronze Age.

I would say GL 76 is the start of the BA.

Copper starts around 1980 thru 1990.

Some put Bat Adv 12 as one of the last copper key but I think 93/94 stretches copper too far.

The very first picture frame books were 25 cents because they were double sized, square bound issues. They started in November 1971. The next issue after the initial picture frame book was then 20 cents per issue, an increase over the previous 15 cents per issue.

Maybe because of this title by Dell publishing is why the other Flash Gordon is a issue 2?

I only did 30 seconds of detective work.
Been busy slinging floppies today.

This link takes you to, what seems like, the next printed Flash Gordon comic book by Dell Comics. But, CGC has it titled as "Four Color comics #512" (probably from the indicia) it came out in November 1953 which means it was printed right after #2 (may, June, July of '53). The title on the cover is "Flash Gordon." Seems to me it should have been #3. But who knows what their thinking was back then.

P.S. the cover looks to be painted by the same artist (I'm no expert).

@sportshort Great find!!

Definitely after your #2....appears related....both painted covers by the same artist. I'm going to look for a Four Colour 511 or earlier.

Here is the first, previous issue to the #512 and your #2 of Dell, same series.

Not sure what this tells us.

I'm still confused. The two I posted are within a year of each other, the one you found is within 8 months of the #2, not too bad so far. But the one posted by @southerncross is many years before these. If Dell wanted to confuse comic book collectors, they've succeeded.

But the book you found is at a great price. Shipping and grading costs are about what they are asking for the book.

Dell often spun named titles out of Four Color Comics. The Four Color #424 (if it really is the first with Flash Gordon) would be the #1, then the #2, then I guess they decided against it.

The Peanuts series from 1958 is like this with the first three issues being Four Color Comics, and issues #4-13 being Peanuts.
