Welcome! Out of curiosity did you join because of manga?

Happy you are here!

@Wade_Story Yes, cause of the new Zaashi grading, was excited to share this book. But I’ve been collecting comics for years. Pretty much only collecting Dragon Ball at the moment.

I have to admit, this makes me hope CBCS is one step close to grading pulps. I don't collect manga (the stuff I want is far out of my potential budget for something I can't read), but I do collect pulps. A case that can hold a zasshi could fit a pulp (essentially the same dimensions but for thickness), with a suitable inner well.

Manga print runs are multiples (often many multiples) of comics. Will be interesting to see how it all develops… I think it is a useful service as currently there is a very real risk of buying fakes (eg weekly shonen jump 51 1984… many, many fakes out there).

Yes most I’ve seen online of Weekly Shonen Jump 1984 51 are fakes. There are specific signs to look for when getting a real copy. Mine is a real copy, but it’s messed up to see some people have bought the fakes for a lot of money. Also, I believe it’s doable to find a copy of Weekly 51, but to find a true copy in decent condition now might be what makes it worth collecting. I doubt there are thousands, maybe even less than hundreds, of them left in good condition at all.

Agreed. The Naruto book I posted previously, I found out it was a fake after further research. Fakes are also littered across eBay.

Really glad you guys are authenticating / grading these books! Very nice job with the quality of the cases and consistent grading. The volume of fake copies of 1st Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and HxH zasshi on ebay is absurd (and the same guys faking those are also now faking some of the popular 1st print tankobon). But I think the market will get cleaned up a lot with grading.

That was one of the big reasons that we felt collectors were underserved. We have gotten quite a few fakes already. I hate that people are getting taken advantage of so hopefully this will help make buyer confidence higher.

I think the amount of fakes floating around not only on online marketplaces, but in Japanese shops as well will make people wary to start collecting.

As far as tankobon goes, we had a period of time when we were consistently getting sent fake One Piece #1, and that seems to have moved onto fake Dragon Ball #1.

Thank you for your work Daniel - the community is lucky that someone on top of all this stuff and personally interested in these books is leading the grading!

1st print tankobon collecting has really picked up since you guys got into it at the beginning of the year. Back then, I saw virtually no one collecting those and now there are several BGS graded tank sales daily on ebay.

I'm confident that interest in graded zasshi will also follow that path. Many of these books (like 1st appearance of Dragon Ball and One Piece in any medium) are too important to be off US collectors' radar for long.

So congrats on the launch and I look forward to seeing this hobby grow!

Thanks! Its been a passion project for me so it has been pretty fulfilling that it has been as successful as it has been. I have no doubt that it will increase in popularity. These stories are way too culturally impactful for them to continue to be treated as disposable media. And they are all more relevant and mainstream than ever before.
