Believe it or not, I didn't trade over 40 books to @Studley_Dudley for a bag of rocks. However, the USPS played some shenanigans with the package of books that were sent to me. I was supposed to receive the package on Saturday, but for some reason, it stayed in Ohio for several days, eventually taking 5 days to get to RI. Then the package was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday, before the end of the day - they twice changed the delivery time to by 8:00 PM and then to by 9:00 PM, but no package. Then USPS put a "Delivery Alert" on the package, whatever that means, and said that the delivery date was unknown. Then last night they again said it would be delivered by 8:00 PM, but at 7:00 PM they said that the package was being held at the Post Office at customer request! More like being held hostage. So I drove to the Post Office this morning, and luckily the guy working the counter was able to find the package. He had me sign for it (I had already electronically pre-signed for it anyway) and gave me the package. So after all that, here's what I got. Four slabs: And two raws: I just need one more issue of ASM for my #17-401 run! |

Picked up a new bound volume for the first time in quite a while. Dell Looney Tunes from 1953-54: This set represents the end of an era. The final issue in this set (#156) is the first 36 page issue after years of getting 52 pages for your dime. |

Posted this previously in the GA thread but here is the most challenging and thus rewarding comic acquisition I’ve ever made. First print appearance of Superman (first publication in any media, in fact). Predates Action Comics #1 and its actual distribution date also predates the other previews (in Tec 15 and in the also-exceptionally-rare New Adventures 26). It also represents the first published image of -the- archetype for what launched an entire genre, a superhero. This was part of Christine Farrell’s estate, one of two known complete DC collections. The other, originally Ian Levine’s, sold earlier this year, though the interior ad in that copy was likely heavily soiled (water damaged cover). Over the past few years I’ve managed to account for about 75% of known copies (from about a dozen total, including restored and coverless missing the ad entirely). None had owners willing to sell, including when asking them to name their price… so feel incredibly -thankful- to have a chance to add this beautiful copy. This is now another copy off the market and something I plan to pass down to my kids. |
