Any point in getting tattered childhood comics restored?21198

I have my childhood copy of Issue #23 of Star Wars Tales (1st Revan and Malak) but the issue is....

Of course there are also spine breaks, but this one crease on the front is the biggest reason I don't want to get it graded...at least not yet. What would be the best way to approach this? Is there any hope?

I would first get the book cleaned and pressed to access the overall look..

If they are modern books, then no. By new copies. It's what I do with Fantastic Four 186.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
You would be better off simply buyong an unrestored copy of the same book in a higher grade.

By “restoration “, am assuming that you are referring to dry cleaning & pressing.

That said, if this book is a NEWSSTAND edition, than it is worth a dry clean & press.

It’d cap out at around 5.0-6.0, due to the color breaking crease.

A direct market copy of this book in 6.0 would be worth around $30-$40 in CGC 6.0.

A newsstand copy of this book would be worth somewhere around $100-$200 in CGC 6.0.

Here’s the difference, the highlit red circle shows a newsstand copy, the other UPC picture shows a direct market copy.

Newsstands from this time period are relatively scarce compared to direct market copies.

Raw 6.0 (your copy is probably around a 4.0 as is) of a direct market is about a $10.

Raw newsstand in 4.0 to 6.0 would be good for around $50-$100.

Slabbed by CGC would add 50% to 100% of the potential FMV in mid grade.

What do you want to do with the book? Keep it as a memento, or sell it? I wouldn't bother with pressing or grading it if you want to sell it. It's not a rare book, so you won't really see a big increase in price realized. If you want to keep it (and don't plan on reading it), I might have it pressed and graded so it will present better and resist further deterioration.

@PolarisNuclearSS2020 I just dug around and couldn't find it so it's probably in the first place I looked, BUT I did check my copy of Star Wars Tales #22 with the AT-ST variant and it does have the "Star Wars Presents" next to the UPC

Fixed; sort of.

$10 raw book.. check
$30 in grading costs.. check

$10 book graded Sells for break even or loss… the math is good with this one.

@PolarisNuclearSS2020 @HulkSmash

Looks like it is Newsstand (I know it's been months but I finally found which box it was in!)
