GPA on X-Men 221 So Much Fun edition?21179

Suck it up, buttercup!! KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
Hello,
Anyone have the GPA report on X-Men 221 So Much Fun edition - can't seem to find much info on this edition.
Trying to figure if it is worth sending for grading/selling - should be in 8-8.5 range?

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks @Bronte @DrWatson
Looks like only 1 copy is worth grading as 1 should be solid 9.6 but the other at 8/8.5 needs to wait for buzz around Mr. Sinister!

Definitely worth having pressed/slabbed if ot’ll grade above 8.0.

I sold a raw 4.0 via mycomicshop consignment at $50 a few months ago.

Just saw that there’s a 4.0 In auction now at $6 .

I sold mine at $42 , the buyer bought it through ebay for $50 at its’ mirrored listing. 🤷🏻

@PolarisNuclearSS2020 nahhh...if 8/8.5 are only $100 books then its not worth slabbing - press and slab is $39 even with 20% off you're at $31

Say it sells $100 - then MCS takes $10 and you're $31 into it for fees - sure it's $59 gain...but could probably sell raw for higher - heck even if raw was $60 then MCS fees take you to $54 gain - not worth grading for a potential $5 difference!!!
It will be perfectly safe back on the shelf or back in a box waiting for Mr. Sinister to get a popularity bump!! as will my high grade Direct edition and the other So Much Fun edition

They really spent a lot of time and money on those logo additions, didn't they?

Correct, I meant to type 9.0, not 8.0.

The OP stated his copy would fetch an 8.0/.5, he didn’t say if it would benefit from a press.

I think this book is worth slabbing as long as it hits a minimum of 8.5.

I think a raw copy graded by MCS at 8.0/8.5, if it would get an 8.0/8.5 from CGC, would be about a washout after slabbing fees.

As long as the consignor has MCS scan the BC, before it is listed for sale, it would probably fetch the equivalent CHC or CBCS graded price.

Though, all of this is speculation without seeing FC & BC scans that @katkomics is asking about.

If the book is an 8.0/8.5 ostensibly from CGC or CBCS but MCS grades it as a 7.0
, it gets hairy.

And I think the time to sell this book is probably best around 6 months ago, I just checked and season 2 will not be out until 2026….probably why there’s a raw 4.0 (which looks like a 6.0) in auction now at MCS….though I don’t think auctions on books like this are generally a good idea because they have a niche market, and you benefit from ebay exposure with MCS’s mirrored listings on ebay when consigning BIN or BIN/BO.

I had my copy, with a 89 cent price sticker on the FC, at $42/BO in MCS, the buyer just paid the full asking price via the $8 higher ebay mirrored listing price.

I sold it at the right time.

So yeah, TL DR aside - you’re probably right.

MCS doesn’t always grade tighter than CGC or CBCS, so that’s something to consider….I think if it’d pull at least a 9.0 from CGC, then it’s worth the cost of pressing/slabbing.

I would not recommend CBCS for copper/moderns, as the market just doesn’t value CBCS s highly as it does for CGC slabbed books, particularly this era of books.
