How would you rather 0.5?21016

Collector jaysonslade private msg quote post Address this user
If you were to have the option to obtain a 0.5 entry-level copy of a book that’s usually over $20k in lower to mid-grade, and you could choose between two copies… would you rather a) the 0.5 have a missing centerfold that doesn’t affect the story (with decent front cover brightness) OR b) the 0.5 be missing the rear cover (with moderately faded front cover)?

Option A.

I don't like 0.5 grade books (as most don't) but if the book is important enough and the missing piece does not affect story...(i.e. which really means no missing art which is why we love this medium) then to me, a missing piece or page is forgivable.

Also, covers (front and back) are important for presentation purposes so I would prefer the missing piece/page be out of view....inside the book.

Covers/presentation: bright colors better than muted/faded colors.

Option A is best in my opinion.

EDIT: I own two 0.5 books: for both books, no missing pages affect story.

@jaysonslade If you proceed in getting the book...be sure to post it here.

Good luck!

Option A.

I have a Marvel Mystery Comics 30 and was happy to get a cheap copy that was missing the centerfold.

Gut reaction is Option A, but honestly, depends on how the covers present on the copies (such as color strike) as at the end of the day these will be for display.

If the book is from an era other than Golden Age then it is always much easier to replace a missing back cover than find the missing interior pages (especially SA Marvel books), so that might sway me to option B if I know I can one day upgrade it to a conserved higher grade label (which I already do with many NG/O.5 books)

It really depends on what's on the back cover. If it's an ad for a daisy bb gun then I'd rather try to find another back cover to marry the missing back cover, than to try to find a centerfold for the book. I have a couple books with mismatched back covers but the books is otherwise complete.

I'm going with option b.

I would generally go with A like everyone else, but I also have some sympathy for whichever has the nicer front cover. They're both 0.5 so you might as well go with what looks good.
