| yeah. its confirmed he is playing victor von doom...not Tony stark doing a heel turn. unless Dr doom did a brain swap (happened in a what if) or he is a variant from another universe. I'd assume they are still doing secret wars | ||

| Had he not played Tony Stark/Iron Man, I'd say that selecting RDJ to play Doctor Doom would be GREAT casting. I'm just not sure how they have him make the leap to Victor Von Doom. I'm sure Kevin Feige has something up his sleeve, though. | ||

| I'm surprised at the amount of hate, just like its 2007 when he was cast as Iron Man. Give the man a chance to deliver his vision of Doom first, I'd say he's earned that. |

| For me it’s Disney’s penchant of late for bad casting decisions and not a jab at RDJ’s acting. RDJ has been the face of the MCU and now they are asking him to play one of the most iconic super villains. It screams low hanging fruit and Disney is tossing a Hail Mary to pull people into the box office. I guess in their opinion it’s easier to recycle versus finding someone who can play Doom for the next 10-15yrs |

| You'd also think they would find someone who is 10-20 years younger. RDJ is 59 and we could have a Doom that is over 70 years old by the time future movies are filmed. Not quite as bad as an 82 year old Harrison Ford Red Hulk but close. | ||

| All I know is they finally did something right. Got the russos back and got rdj. Those three have been lugging this thing the whole time. | I think this is just Marvel/Disney doing the same thing they did with Star Wars. The Last Jedi tried to do something different, all the fanboys hated it, and so they backtracked so hard in Rise of Skywalker that they messed it up and insulted everyone more. Now they're making the multiverse movies, all the fanboys are upset, and so they're backtracking to comfort food. Hopefully they don't mess it up this time. | ||

| I still think Kang would've worked still. Just recast him. They did before in MCU whether small roles or major(ish) Kang looking completely different would still fit the narrative as the whole point is Kang is variants. RDJ as Dr. Doom is very confusing...so is he from another universe where he looks like Tony stark? is it so happens victor von doom and Tony stark look the same. Never show his face and have rbj use a different voice? if different universe and MCU is rebooted and Dr doom returns...say its always been case (kind of like how they did crisis on infinite earths. after the event one earth was created with origins now co-insiding with the new norm with people from other earths as if it was always the case) Or he be Stark's third twice removed that the side is the black sheep on the family at least if secret wars is still happening, it will be more comic accurate with villain. |

| With all this multiverse stuff and variant characters going on it only makes sense that RDJ is playing a Tony Stark variant of Dr. Doom....it has to be. It can't be that he's playing a completely new, different, seperate Victor Von Doom character with no connection to Tony Stark. Not only would that be completely confusing to the audience (that even know and follow this convoluted storyline) but it's also terribly lazy casting if he's truly not a Stark variant. |

| ok based on the Fantastic Four: First Steps (official title) trailer/concept trailer/footage shown at San Diego comic con. I have a theory. It looks like F4 will be in an alternate universe as the footage showed it takes place in an alternate futuristic new York city in the 60s. My guess Dr. Doom will come from that universe (explain why he looks like iron man). He will invade the MCU in doomsday and cause an incursion destroying the MCU but he manages to create battleworld for secret invasion. after secret invasion, the fox universe, newly established F4 universe and MCU will become one |
