Would this small corner crease bother you in 9.8 grade? The rest of the book is perfect.

I would not buy a 9.8 with that corner crease. Not sure whether that answers your question.

I bought it in a mycomicshop auction. Book is perfect but that crease bugs me.

Overstreet standards do not allow a corner crease like that on a 9.8. I know that using them as a guide is seen as old-fashioned to many people.

Still a really nice book, though.

Personally, I would have graded it a 9.6.

Personally, if everything else is pretty much perfect, I'd probably call it a 9.4 since that crease breaks color. But that's just me. Your mileage may vary.

Still, what's the old saying? "Buy the book not the grade."

Thanks for your thoughts! I have about 600 certified comics, the majority are cgc but also some cbcs. This one is perfect except for that small corner crease and it bugged me when compared to other 9.8s from both companies that I own. This one is overgraded a bit.

I have to blow up the picture to even see it. Not all 9.8s are created equal.

However, if it bothers you, sell it along and find another copy.

That's why I don't purchase graded books.
Someone can find their dumbass grading definitions and try to defend this.
I'll call B.S.

$40 something dollars plus shipping for this?

"Sell graded, buy raw".
Let someone else have a grading company's "subjective" opinion based, (of course, on well defined standards). <eye roll>

It's a soft corner but also a minuscule flaw that appears to be acceptable for 9.8.

CBCS:
NEARMINT+ / MINT9.8
This is close to mint with few minor defects
Interior pages are almost always off-white/white or better

Flaws always look worse when isolated and magnified. From the full picture of the book, it can pass for a 9.8 imo.

A 9.8 should be a near perfect copy. You should have great difficulty finding any flaws. To the extent that someone might have to point it out because you missed it, even after close examination.

This comic is a long way from that. It's pretty obvious.

Unless you move the goalposts completely out of the stadium.

Pretty soon a coverless copy will qualify as a 9.8 because there were no defects on the cover.

This.

Is it a 9.8? I couldn't say without seeing the book in hand. I do believe that if a defect needs magnification to be noticeable, then it really isn't.

If that was on the spine, everyone would be calling it bindery tear.

Buy the comic, not the label.

Looks like a great book, who cares what number is on the label.

Let's not get crazy.

That book is not a long way from that and goal posts have not left any stadiums.

An argument can be made for a 9.6 and maybe (but not in my opinion) a 9.4. Both are not far off a 9.8.

In my opinion the book is not a strong 9.8 but seems consistent with allowable flaws, provided the rest of the book is flawless, and that appears to be the case.

It would be nice if the label matched the book.

It's supposed to match.

This book and label, no match.

I love when my "unobservable with naked eye" defects result in 9.6.

Yknow... the amoeba they found on the spine; the 1 angstrom unit thick thread they found; the 0.000001" tear.

Oh wait those are 3 tiny defects. My bad. Clearly only one observable defect is better than three defects seen by an electron microscope.

Such inconsistent bullshit it's maddening 🙄

You act as if the label and book not matching is some rare event. It's not.

Books are consistently over graded or under graded. Very seldom do you hear the cgc Goldilocks-ed a book and people say, "Oh, this one is just right."

I'm fact, it's so prevalent that the cgc is basing their entire 9.9 campaign on the idea that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of 9.9s sitting out there in 9.8 holders. I wonder how many of those new 9.9 labels will match the book?

Quick, resubmit before the 9.9s flood, crash thè market, and take the 9.8 market right along with it.

I couldnt tell that the book I got had that corner crease from the picture they posted. Pics dont blow up enough. Mine was also over a $100 less. But, I would have chosen that one if I had the choice due to the better wrap.

I wouldn't worry at all about it. You have a high grade book with a tiny corner flaw hardly noticeable. CBCS saw fit to give it a 9.8 under their guidelines. Congrats on a great book!
