@Sigur_Ros honestly no. When I started collecting again 8 years ago; it's was cbxs, cgc and pgx. That's all I knew about | ||

Quote:Originally Posted by Sigur_Ros Correct. I own a handful of graded sports and trading cards. PSA and BGS are the two standards, with some very odd industry sub-specialties. Odd, because most of the process should be identical. BGS premium for MTG (Magic the Gathering) and PSA for Pokemon. BGS and PSA are pretty much equivalent in sports cards. They have some different distributions on the extremes - a BGS 10 is far scarcer than a PSA 10, etc. As always, lots of online partisan preferences but most (in my opinion) is noise - they are both reputable. I think PSA is entering at an interesting time. CGC has some issues, CBCS too. The market has softened considerably and may continue to until we see interest rates fall and the next up-cycle starts. We may need to first pass through a true recession so it will be telling how the (now 3) players conduct themselves. I don’t consider egs and other minor startups as competitors. PSA has an established name so is different and could shake things up. |

My thoughts after perusing this thread and the linked information: 1. I'm okay with more competition in the space. I don't think I will rush out and send any books to PSA, as I am currently happy with CBCS' service and price. That might change once we actually have finalized information on introductory pricing and services. The slab has to be the same size as CBCS and CGC, however, as I am not changing my storage for a start-up grader. 2. Swagglehaus is one of those YouTubers who I do not subscribe to, but I will watch a video if the subject matter is interesting. Others in this category include Comic Tom, Mint Hunter, and Automatic Comics. I am subscribed to Regie Collects, even though he has not posted a video in ages. I'm not interested in the financial aspect of comics (other than not wanting to pay more than I have to), so I watch them mostly because it's so much not why I am into comics. Like going to a freak sideshow. 3. The only YouTube channel I watch regularly and suggest to everyone is Bronze and Modern Gods. The $3/month membership is worth every penny. It's more like hanging out at a LCS talking about comics than any other channel I know on YouTube. |

Quote:Originally Posted by GAC This seems a little weird. From their website: CPS Pedigree Grading Have your comic professionally graded and display ready, but still accessible. Your comic can be opened and still enjoyed, and will display perfectly in an 11×17 frame along with grading notes. And why not get all your indie comics a grade of 10. Guaranteed. I don't know what their definition of Pedigree is, but I don't think it is the same as the accepted norm. Hmmm.. indie publishers can have access to the same collectibles that the big three get: professionally graded and encapsulated copies of their comic books, complete with a special pedigree label. The best part: with our service, we guarantee you 5 perfect copies graded at 10.0 – yes, guaranteed perfect 10s. |

The card collectors that have been using PSA for years are probably ecstatic right now. Especially the poor folks with OCD. Now they can have their card and comic collection match. Time will reveal how accurate their grader or graders and finalizer is. They also better have a super holder. No newton rings or creaky slabs. With their experience and financial strength, they will do just fine with their small slice of pie. |

@James42 I agree with you 100%. I started watching Swagglehaus when he first started. He was all about raw books, no slabs. Now he acts like he is the go-to guy for anything comic related. With his style he is difficult to watch and after he published his own book he became more difficult. ComicTom is another one of those YouTubers I tried and I just couldn't take his style. I did Reggie for a while until he basically said CBCS was crap and no one should use them. I used to watch Minthunter because he had some interesting information and he at least gave CBCS some credit for being a better company. When he lost his job and became a full time seller, his objectivism went out the window. He actually said the other day that all the talk about CGC's 9.9's is false information, that CGC hasn't been giving out more 9.9's. The one YouTube cannel I watch regularly is Bronze and Modern Gods. The shows are basically about a couple guys sitting around taking comics. They have Show and Tell, the 25 Year Rule (They highlight a book from 25 years ago), the Old Fart Rule, (They highlight a book from 40 years ago), Hot Book of the week, Viewer mail and on Thursday's live stream, they invite subscribers to join them with Show and Tell. They are all about the hobby, not what they think you should buy. I also am a subscriber and enjoy watching the craziness that can ensue on their show. |

Oh lordy, save me from the comic book influencers. Girly girl and wham bam thank you comic fam and the others. All trying to be popular in a hobby they entered five minutes ago. But not fun and games when some were called out buying multiple copies of a after market limited con exclusive so they can corner the market to flip like they just invented flipping on Why not?. During acegate! There's a cure for that. UNSUBSCRIBE! |
