On the subject, I am not sure of the technical side much myself. But if I am asked for input, I want to be able to give the feedback you have all presented on the subject. If someone from CBCS previously mentioned that creating a new forum would result in the current format going away, that may be true (again not a tech savy person here).

also not a techie...but you would think a new forum could be started with the old archived and posting abilities turned off so it could still be available for resources

If not there is always the just pull the band aid off! - short term pain for long term gain?

Maybe more Draconian moderators as well. Banned Camp members need more company.

I'm looking for the old thread that had serious discussion about updating the forum. I can't seem to find it at the moment, but I'll keep trying.

Updating the forum is not even on Beckett's list. Hell, a Beckett or CBCS representative doesn't even post Code Word Specials here. One of the board members has to do it. We're lucky we've got Ricketts and Wade... if you call that luck. 😉

I'm not sure how one goes from a CBCS 9.8 to a CGC 7.5 but it sounds like someone funked this dude's book up. I'm not buying that the crease was always on the back cover and CBCS somehow missed it.

It would be nice if the OP of the thread gave an indication of whether the back cover crease was present when the book was still in the CBCS case. The way it's presented, it's unclear whether he thinks CBCS overgraded the book or CGC damaged the book.

The submitter posted they were unaware of any crease on the BC.

They didn’t say if they were aware of the other issues on the BC which themselves would imho put this book at around a 9.2 from CGC or CBCS.

I would post in that thread to ask or send the submitter a DM over there but I don’t want my own CGC account to get banned.

think this book may have been swapped out for a lesser copy…..CBCS and CGC can be loose sometimes but not this loose.

It would be good if we knew if the book was bought slabbed by CBCS at 9.8 as that would allow us to find pictures/scans of the book while still in the CBCS holder.

I haven’t tried looking for it yet because I don’t have a GoCollect account and I would have to Wade thru a google search > ebay sold etc

My two post that got my complete 20 years of history deleted and cannot post without moderator approval.
Keep in mind I've never had a warning of any type in those 20 plus years.

"I don't think that the AI moderation "team" can be thankful. Great mission statement CGC. "Stay Classy".

The last person to eventually post about comics in "Comics General" please turn out the lights."

"Is there a back up plan for continuing the boards after CGC effectively ruins the experience of this wonderful comic community. Would it be possible to template these boards? The only thing that would be missing is "Ask CGC" and that doesn't work anyways. I would think with the amount off views and members that many of the comic related advertiser's would see value in basically just switching over. Same amount of eyes and same demographic just straight comic related with a exact replica of how it was. "

I've spent a crap load on CGC books and subs over the years and that will be it for me. They have no customer loyalty. Very short sighted. Getting rid of 100's of pages of excellent content and great threads when other sights would love to have all that content and free input. Incredible.

@Beaumonts Welcome to the boards. I remember seeing you on the cgc forums, but I don't remember interacting all that much. That said, it's been 10 or 15 years since I lasted posted over there. A lot of stuff to be forgotten. Never regretted the decision to leave.

I have a large collection of Silver Marvel but I really enjoy DC, especially Atom Age. I also have lots of Canadian comics that are Atom age and Golden Age. Basically collect a little of everything. Not a Modern age collector but do appreciate copper and bronze. I joined the CBCS boards around 2016 but have only lurked several times since.

idk...CGC first lost me probably right around when CBCS started.
I was at a convention and had some questions about the process and the people at the booth just gave me a really, really bad vibe - like I was lucky to submitting books to them, why do I have questions and just give us your $$ stupid

I don't even remember what books they were but regardless of "value" - every book someone submits is valuable to them and the book and customer should be treated as such

CBCS was new and was at the same convention - so I went over there and had a pleasant and smooth transaction.

Now - there have been some bumps in the road with CBCS- don't get me wrong - but nothing compared to the dumpster fire at CGC and my books have never been damaged by CBCS when I've entrusted them to protect them!

Through the years I've used both CBCS and CGC but CGC really for the odd signature event - this last while with allll the different buffoonery from invisible comics to that acetate books issue to the different legal issues never mind historic things like creep engine cases and newton rings and now the latest issue with their cases...I can safely say that unless there is just some person I absolutely must get for a signature series I will not be using CGC any time soon (and my latest submission was last year or the year before...and yeah...I think some of my books are wonky)

since I started collecting in 2018; I never bought into CGC. Through all of my research I decided to submit a few books to CBCS through a LCS. I was very impressed with CBCS. I bought some CGC slabs in between my first and second subs to CBCS. I can honestly say as newb in hobby that I don’t understand why CGC is regarded so highly.

Yes they have been around for longer.
Yes their sisters hold standards for other hobbies

But, I’ve always felt CGC is sub par on comics. Literally my first experience with CGC slab was disheartening feeling the amount of flexibility and literally being able to pull the slab apart with my fingers. It was a Spider-Man 1 that I intended on CPRing anyway, but the little effort to crack was a concern compared to older CBCS clip style slab.

Maybe it’s an old dog new tricks scenario? IDK; CGC is a joke imho. As bad as I wanted to send for McFarlane sigs I couldn’t do it. I will gladly try PSA when official to compare to CBCS and I’m glad I can freely say all this without being booted.
