I've spent years perfecting my brand of assholery. DrWatson private msg quote post Address this user
I'm a firm believer in by the book, not the grade, but I'm also a bit of a grade snob.

I don't like going below an 8.5 on Silver Age books (preferably 9.0/9.2), 9.4/9.6 on Bronze, and 9.8 on Copper and newer.

I can partially lay the blame on OCD.

You are not wrong. I really only like NM, hence my user name. Being this way has costs. Higher grade copies cost more. And being unwilling to buy lower grade books makes it tougher to find some books I want. Oh well..... The books I have are sweet......

@flanders That's a really really nice looking book. Grader Notes say a Stain in middle and other smaller stains on front cover?

Here's my thought. If a tree falls in the woods; does it make a sound if nothing alive hears it?
If there's a stain that can only be seen by electron microscope, is it a stain to the bare human eye?

Kinda kidding but damn that Nick Fury book looks good and I certainly can't see any stains from that picture. That's for sure.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@Nuffsaid111 thanks, I certainly won't try to find those stains. It looks good how it's displayed.

I walk past all the 9.2's to buy the 9.0 lingering in the back of the room a drink.

I generally find rare -books- more interesting than high grades. There is no magic going from a 9.2 to 9.4 to 9.6, etc. Visually, for the vast majority of books a 9.0 does as good a job of representing a book as a 9.6. For many, especially of a certain age, even low grade with patina represents extremely well. Cover art isn’t meant to be enjoyed with a magnifying glass or through scrutinizing small imperfections from reading. When a book exists in the thousands or tens of thousands of graded copies, paying big $ for these fine grade distinctions… not for me.
