I worked as a lifeguard at 2 of the hotels on Clifton Hill like 30+years ago
Then as prepcook and occasional pantry chef at Hard Rock Cafe in the the casino and later as JR auditor for the same hotels I was a life guard at - sadly only work 15 minutes from the falls now!

Fun fact - one side of Clifton Hill has been owned by the same family since like the 1920s -they basically just print money!
The other side is 2 families - well I think one is corporate thing now...one of those families ran a TV repair company for all the hotels...and somehow got the contract to run the casino...very "wise" guys to pull that off.....

I loved the Falls when it was campy and kitschy....when I was in my teens (mid 80s) and lived in Toronto, my family would often go to the Falls for the day for a picnic and a good time out. There were "Ripley's Believe It Not" type places there and as a kid, I loved it.

yep..those were the days.
A friends girlfriend was in the Ripleys flyer standing next to a fibreglass statue of the worlds tallest man.
Early 90's Maple Leaf Village was an amusement park/center before it was the casino. On slow days instead of lifeguarding we would go ride the ferris wheel or shoot targets at those air gun western scene things..then go back and punch out for our shift! mainly end of Septemberish when there were more staff working in the hotels than there were guests!

Funny thing is all those years we thought it was just more fake stuff like most other things at that place!

That building is now "Bird Kingdom" quite impressive - a massive indoor area with exotic birds...in the before times when I was in the office 5 days a week I would go there (mainly the small bird area to listen to the songs) on my birthday for lunch - free admission on your birthday...then I would spend the $15 I saved to feed the lorikeets and get a photo with them all over my arms and head!!
Everyone thought I was crazy at work...but the simple things really do make the day!

My wife has been streaming Heartland. Canadian made soap opera on a horse ranch. Like a Canadian version of Dallas or something. Fitting that she was watching it on Canada Day.
