@southerncross - Seeing that Conan #11, it reminds me of how long (years, literally) I searched for a decent copy of that issue in those days before eBay.

I wish someone around here sold good books like that. The LCSs here cater to pull box and if you’re not a regular don’t even bother asking questions or seeing an over priced book off the shelf; it’s like they don’t know you so your money is not good there. IDK it’s all I know and the one cool dude (who still had his quirks) closed shop simply because he was bored with the shop. That man was funny; he priced fairly and he also priced what he wanted even if it was ridiculous. For him the price was the price and that’s what he wanted or get out. He did help me out a lot as new collector and made me some really good deals on his back issue drek. One of those people who could smell sincerity or BS on you when you walked in.

@HulkSmash What a weird shop acting elitist
The idea in business is to build your business. And if it's retail then to sell to customers and hopefully have regular patronage of your retail store.

I've been pretty lucky as I've found lcs that always dealt in back issues and vintage books. Even back in Australia there was my lcs that sold no modern books and just sold vintage comics.

And though this shop has nice bronze books that I call Marks books.
I've bought nice key bronze, silver age and golden age books from this store.
Pre Batman Detective to Timely captain America to single digit Superman's.

I do understand what you're saying about shops thinking why should I sell to you, I've gotten that vibe from comic book dealers at cons, luckily I can just walk to the next booth and have only wasted five minutes of my time.

I spoke a little more with Mark.
Bulk of the books I've seen come into the store are from 1971-1976.

So I had to ask him about the books sealed in bags as that wasn't done in the early 70s.
It turns out years after buying the books he worked for another distributor and he would bring in books of 20 and heat seal them in bags. So some of those books ended up with a little more handling.

Also one of books have been dropped off that I didn't know of.

A regular customer of the store had Amazing Spider-Mans set aside and I rang them up for him yesterday and they were the first time I saw them. A really nice second appearance of the punisher issue 134.
Also sweet copies of Black panther jungle actions.
I'm hoping there's more of them and not single issues.

I've only seen one copy that I bought.
So far only 25% of all his books have made it into the store so far.

there are 2 “actual” comic shops that offer pull box and new issues. One is absolutely terrible and the other doesn’t seem to want your business. I made the mistake multiple times of not wanting a specific book and only asking about a series or genre in general and buying supplies only. One is worse than the other one deals in cards too; both are trash. There are a few shops that offer comics and collectibles one is not that great, one is new that I have not had a chance to visit and there is one called Most Wanted Comics which is actually a good place, but I have not been there since covid when hours were a short window on odd days. Most Wanted at the time offered some good bronze and modern and had a relatively small selection. Nice guy, but he wasn’t there often because he was running another business and picking up collections too. Getting good books from him was difficult. He’d post on facebook what nicer books he got in and they’d get snatched quick, good for him, bad for people with jobs who can’t just run over there. Trying to make a deal was awkward because the person running the shop had to call him for everything. kinda gave up on that one I should go by there sometime to see what his inventory is looking like these days.

Yuck, man. It sounds like the brick and mortar comic scene in your area is really lacking. The closest store to your area that I know of is Lone Star in Lake Jackson (they have 3 stores, actually). I've only shopped with them a little though and only at their 3rd store in the Houston area near NASA.

There's a slight manufacturing error on the front cover, more prominent on the back cover with this cover.

Me too and I love getting the darker color covers where they look sweet.
Unfortunately these horror came in as single issues, a lot of them were $15 each, a couple were $20 each and the house of Secrets was a big $30. Fits right into my budget.
The other non horror were $6 each except the DC villains which was $10 and I had to pick it up because of the condition. Can't wait to read these unread copies. 👍
