I am a new grader of sorts! I decided back in January that I wanted to finish my working career as a teacher at a local High School. I sold off many of my most valuable books to fund the transition time and eligibility certification program. I started substitute teaching in March, had a summer off (unpaid)and started full time teacher work at the end of July. Kids came back to class Early August and it's been pretty much 70-hour work weeks since then. I'm up at 5 am every day, get to the school at 6 and typically get home after 4. Still working Saturday and Sunday to prepare content and instruction. I will share more details when I feel like I've gotten out of survival mode. Hopefully that should be in a couple weeks when the first quarter ends and we get a weeklong fall break.

@EbayMafia you should've taught the same subject as @esaravo and taken all his lesson plans.

@EbayMafia - Good luck! I started a second career as a high school teacher at age 43 in 2003. First two plus years were exactly as you described. Now I’m 64 and retired after 20 years. And I’m still working on sleeping later than 5 am (EST) after so many years of getting up at 4:45 am to leave my house before the school buses hit my neighborhood.

I ended up submitting 45 graded books to MCS. Found out the New Teen Titans Annual #2 9.8 was a Canadian Price Variant. Who knew?

It was graded back when no one really cared about that sort of thing.

Of course it does say $1.25 Canadian in big red and white letters, but I never really noticed that.

Im not even sure how I came to own it as I submitted it raw to be graded years ago.

@DrWatson lol....I don't notice Canadian "variants" because no one cares up here!!
Maybe the odd comic shop but for the most part CPV are just in the bins with everything else!

The number of people who don't pay after their offer has been accepted is surprising.

It seems as though this is a form of low rent entertainment for some people.

This is by far the biggest downside to consigning with MCS.

That is the one thing I have no patience for as it's a total waste of time.

That is the reason why I only sell to MCS and not consign...I get less but I get it all up front and I don't have to deal with nonsense.

I'll probably change everything to a fixed price and eliminate offers. I think the problem comes from offers through eBay.

I always assumed it was used more as a “no obligation option-to-buy”. By someone either speculating, trying to flip before committing, or securing an option while still shopping. Or possibly even another seller creating a fake sale and temporarily taking a lower priced book off the market. But I’m probably over-thinking it. I haven’t done much selling lately but for me it was always more of a nuisance than a major concern.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
Ehh, i have offer available on about 99% of my listings. I have had non-payments, but not an issue to me as it only occurs about once or twice per month, and unlike ebay, I don't have to follow up on it, MCS does that, then penalizes the non-payer with some type of probation (first or infrequent offendor) or banishment (regular/frequent offender). I know about the probations, unfortunately, as I have accidentally missed a couple of offer or auction payments because of being too damn busy to remember or holding off to add several items.

In one set of cases, I had made an offer on one CBCS comic, which was accepted several times. But, MCS kept canceling the order as I was combining the order with some raw purchases that I wanted CBCS to temporarily hold in my consignment so I could bundle an order for CBCS. After the third cancellation, the seller of the CBCS comic I wanted put the comic into auction.

Dr.Watson, if that was your comic, my sincere apologies.

@KatKomics

You're lucky. I wouldn't say it happens often, but I can count on one hand the amount of times someone hasn't paid for something they won from my auctions.

@Scifinator

Usually I just have everything at fixes price without offers accepted.

As I put a lot of money into the books this year I recently added offers accepted to six of my biggest books in an attempt to move them a bit faster as selling one of them would move the needle a bit in terms of funds raised.

@DrWatson

Ouch man. I tend to get a gut feeling when that one book sits for weeks and hasn't been paid that I'm going to be forced to try again. I know MCS says they ban the folks who do this, but what is to stop the banned from just creating a new username/account and trying again?
