Uncanny 242 is the actual next part of the story. The X-Men being turned a bit by the environment gives a reason for a fight with X-Factor until they all turn their attention on N'Astirh and Madelyne. N'Astirh is defeated but things aren't over yet since Madelyne still has the baby.

X-Factor 38 has the finale to Madelyne's story. It's a long one and mostly treads things we already knew, as far as the big speeches go. Madelyne is certainly a tragic and sympathetic villain, but still a villain none the less. The last two issues will wrap up the story by taking the fight to Mr. Sinister, who started all this by creating Madelyne.

Uncanny 243 has a psychic confrontation with Sinister followed by a physical one. The X-Mansion gets destroyed yet again and Sinister comes out on top leading into the final issue.

X-Factor 39 wraps the story with the big fight against Sinister (and Malice). We get a bunch of backstory on Sinister's control over Cyclops' childhood, which ends with Sinister being disintegrated. Everyone goes their happy way. Although, with the mention of saving baby Christopher at the end, I realize I didn't pay any attention to where he went. I guess with Jean's parents on Ship? I won't say it's my favorite X-Men story, but I did enjoy the reading and filling in the detail on something I only knew the rough outline of. Madelyne and Sinister come back other times in future stories and it's nice to have the foundational story. |

I’d just re-watched the Nee Mutants movie recently (I guess I’m one of the few that really likes it) so it was nice seeing some of the characters from the movie again, though clearly in different parts of their lives. There is also a small scene with Magneto and the Hellfire Club just to remind us that they’re still alive. With the full on invasion it does feel like a proper event now, though we’re only seeing it from the perspective of the Mutant characters. I know there are crossover issues but you’d think someone like Doctor Strange would make an appearance in the core series, given the subject Quote: Originally Posted by xkonk I’m hoping to catch up and finish Inferno this month. Exterminators 4 and New Mutants 72 focus on the two teams closing the portal to Limbo and stopping the flow of demons to New York. Exterminators 4 feels like an ending, and I guess it is the ending of the mini-series but it is kind of strange how it comes at the midpoint of the crossover. NM 72 was interesting. It retells a lot of of the battle to disrupt the portal from the New Mutants point of view but also spends a significant portion on Magick being tortured, urging her to shed blood with her sword to awaken her demonic powers. While interesting, I feel the trials were a bit superficial. Aside from the distortion and abnormality of it all none of the trials really tugged on Magick’s specific traumas or vulnerabilities, which I think could’ve been more effective. Granted if that’s something the series has already dealt with it might seem repetitive for regular readers So far, the crossover has been a bit interesting in that it seems to be focusing on the B and C teams to carry a significant amount of the story and going forward we seem to be getting back to X-Men and X-Factor for much of the remainder. Because of this, I don’t feel especially invested in the events. These aren’t the characters I’m most familiar with, not that the younger teams don’t have fun characters but everything is happening very fast and feels like we’ve barely had time to learn about them before they’re tossed into successive action scenes. At this point, I’m not sure if the remaining story with X-Men and X-Factir will do a lot of retelling from a different point of view or if it will focus on the events after the closing of the portal. |
