I just found out that Rick and Morty #2 (1st Print 2015) has a LOWER^ print run than the "HOLY GRAIL" of Rick and Morty comics; Rick and Morty #1 1:50 VARIANT (1st Print 2015)....

....which begs the question, why is the (undergraded IMHO, but look at the FC and BC scans to see for yourself) 8.5 copy I have in auction at mycomicshop only at FOUR DOLLARS, with 2 days left in the auction?

AUCTION LINK:

Rick and Morty #1 1:50 1st Print 2015

Yeah, I know there's a big drop off in value between a #1 and a #2, but WTF???

Both of these book have similiar print runs....352 copies printed of the #1 1:50 variant and 459 copies printed of the #2 1:20 variant....both are 1st prints, and niether of them are bull :poop: store exclusive variants.

Is it possible accusations against Roiland are affecting the #1 Roiland variant? It’s also not that great of a cover imo.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Issue number one has the first appearance of many characters from the TV show.

Why is Daredevil # 2 so much lower in price than Daredevil # 1?

Pretty much the same reason.

The 1:50 also has cover art from Justin Roiland who is the original voice of Rick, Morty and many other characters.

Any first print of Rick and Morty #1 (2015), be it the standard cover of #1 should be the more valuable book between 1st prints of #1 and #2, I'm not arguing that.

What I am saying is that the Rick and Morty #2 1 in 20 variant with a print run of 459 copies, somehow has a lower "FMV" than Rick and Morty #2 1st print standard cover with a print run of 9,169 copies.

And you can find multiple copies of Rick and Morty #2 1st print standard covers at any given time on eBay, raws and at least 1 or 2 CGC 9.8's.

GPA has the last sale of a #2 1:20 at only $185, IIRC GPA has the FMV of the standard 1st print of #2 at around $250 in 9.8 with dozens of sales....only 1 sale of the 1:20 is shown in GPA at $185, IIRC.

@HulkSmash

R + M 1 1:50 exploded during the 2021-22 comic boom, it has come down since than...I think the cover by Roiland is actually fairly cool, and I don't think the accusations against him had any impact on the desirability of the key issues from his series.

R + M has a solid fan base, and Roiland was booted from the show shortly after the accusations came around. Personally, I dont agree with that decision, but MeToo hysteria is the norm in Hollywood.

@DrChaos

The #2 1:20 variant is by Erica Hayes, who worked on 24 episodes of the Rick and Morty show as a storyboard artist.

-not as cool as being a cover by Roiland, but it's not as if the #2 1:20 variant was drawn by some random artist who had nothing to do with the show.

Here's her IMDC credits:

Just looked more closely at this cover, it looks like a homage to the facehugger breeding pods from the Alien movies.

Take a gander at the thingamajigs hanging from the rods on the front cover, and the UFO depicted in the middle of the field.

Looks like your book closed at almost 5x what you stated in your original post. It doesn't seem like there is much demand in Rick and Morty like there was back during the Covid era so it probably corrected to where it should be.

I know many people love MyComicShop's grading.
I don't however.

Why?
Yes - they are almost always undergrading the books. And therein lies the problem. What am I really getting? For this particular book it is listed as VF+. Is that a MyComicShop VF+ or is it really a VF+?

I honestly wish they would grade a bit more appropriately.

Side Note: Just got a book from Mycomicshop a few days ago. Cheap book but listed as "VF". It is, however, NM+ all day without a single flaw. So why list at VF when it is not even near that grade? I'm not calling it worrisome, but on the day I get a true VF from them hoping it follows this trend, I'm going to be disappointed.

@PolarisNuclearSS2020

Something is Killing the Children first prints sell for more in 9.8 than either the Frison or Ler variant covers in the same grade.

I think both variants look way cooler than the standard cover but the market has other ideas.

There is no counting for tsste.

@Nuffsaid, in my experience, the cheaper the book the more their grade is off. They could care less on a Hellblazer 141 I just bought 3 copies of. On the other hand, start looking at raw books they call 9.0 or better and get into a hundred or so. They get way more stingy, and I’ve purchased quite a few where I’ve been disappointed by their assessment.

Really, I’m just proving you right, but I have found some method to their madness.

I’ve noticed the same. I speculate that with the seemingly endless amount of books they keep on hand; it may be more in their favor to undergrade the less expensive books before being stored away untouched for X amount of time leaving room for potential oversight, reduced return rate, and any factors that may diminish the grade over time (uncontrollable temperature/ambient conditions, handling inventory, etc, etc).
