Yeah, prices seem to be normalizing, but this book will definitely go way up before the end of the 6 days.

GPA doesn't record any sales of the book in 9.2 for 2020 nor 2022. The only year the book was going for 30'ish thousand dollars was 2021. No recorded sales 2022 and then in 2023 it was 17'ish thousand. Back in 2019 the average was $9k

I'm guess this copy will land in the $17,000 range, since the last sale in Nov 2023 was for that.

2021 was a great year to sell professionally graded and encapsulated books. But it was only great for what you already had. Because the grading companies were backed up six months or more.

Haha, exactly… a 6.5 I was considering just sold for about $15k 30 minutes ago…

It's way too early, but very curious to see where this ends.

Next 10 to 20 years will be interesting.
Largest transfer of wealth is underway and will ramp up as boomers pass away and assets make their way to the kids..might be a lull now but a sellers market may be on the horizon?

Sellers market - or buyers? I might depend on what asset class. Generation X and Y (aka Millennials) are set to see a transfer of wealth as their Boomer parents leave this world... Cash and Securities will of course increase their wealth and purchasing power.

But things like houses and collectibles are a bit more complicated. Much - maybe most - probably the great majority of such will go on the market. My kids (all millennials) have their own houses (in other cities where they work) and zero interest in collecting comic books. These things will go on the market.

Specific to comic books, the question is this? Are we going to be replacing collectors that die with brand new collectors (flush with inherited money)? Or is there just going to be fewer collectors - as their collections enter the market?

There are a lot of REALLY NICE comic collections out in the wild. If you collected comic books in the 70's and 80's you built your collection at really great prices. These books are stored away, never been graded. Many owners maybe never even heard of grading and fewer still clearing/pressing before grading.

If it's true that a homes and collectibles enter the market over the next 10-20 years, it might have stabilizing effect - or maybe a reducing effect - on prices

Sellers should buy when the price is right for them to make a profit and so should true collectors, when they love the book and the price, but without worrying about profit. Back in the day, I paid super high for the right books as a collector.

The market is super strong at this point in time, after the Covid correction. Especially on keys, fantastic covers, GGA, WWII covers, early appearances of GA characters and so on.....

That said, the more collections that are coming out, the more "commons" or, 98% of 1990's and on, are going to keep rising on any real census, making prices drop.

Blue chips are an entirely different story. Unless you pay too much and/or don't adhere to the hold for 2-5 years rule, then you are just gambling, unless it's a comic you really want. Heck, that's our passion!

If you're just a "flipper", I hope you make money in an honest way and make a good living. If it doesn't work out for you, oh well, not one of us has a crystal ball for gambling, not my concern.

I only care about honest auctions (most are not!), keeping and enjoying my hobbyist friends and keep making new ones every day, enjoying every day, luckily, working in this incredible hobby and trying to help keep it healthy, honest and especially FUN!

Anyone with questions can always email me (sborock@comiclink.com) and I will be happy to help you navigate our great hobby with advice, no matter where you are buying or selling your comics (and art), Just want to help the next generation like those who were around way before me in the hobby helped me to learn........ Jerry Weist, Maggie Thompson, Bob Overstreet, Steve Sibra, David King, Steve Geppi, Joe Vernault, John K Snyder II, Dave Anderson (VA), John Verzyl, Phil Sueling, James Payette, Susan Cicconi, David Alexander, Bill Cole, Bob Cook, Al Stoltz, Gary Carter, Jon Berk, Howard Greber, Rick Frogge, Michelle Nolan and so many other "real" hobbyists! We have lost too many of these great people

If I did not mention some people, it's because they were people who stole from me or my friends, lied to me as a "friend" to make money or I forgot to mention the other "good people". Sorry that I left some of them out!!!!!

I would be remiss if I did not mention my brother-in-arms, Mark Haspel. I had hand picked him as 2nd in command when we opened CGC (Though a big New York outfit tried to make sure he was not hired because he was honest and could not be bought off!) and helping me while navigating the impossible original grading standards we set for CGC that we hoped sellers and collectors would both agree with, kinda.. Though he is 10 years younger than me, we worked so often together, he taught me things about many cool books I never paid attention to. His ethics were/are amazing, and we learned so much from each other! I love him like family!!! Heck, my 26-year-old-daughter still calls him Uncle Mark! Smartest and most knowledgeable hobbyist I know!

End of rant!! So sorry!! The market for comics is doing just fine.....YAAAY!

I help out a friend who owns a comic book store and just a couple of weeks ago a father and son walked into the shop.
At first I thought the father was the collector and the son was tagging along but nope. It was the son who was between 10-12 the collector and the father tagging along.

The young collector knew all the marvel first appearances from the 60s and was a Ironman fan.

He ended up walking out with two early Ironman books of Tales of suspense.

So there are young collectors out there.
And I was pleasantly surprised and kind of hopeful in our fun hobby for the future of four color pop culture.

I bought my 9.2 last year in November from my comic shop in an auction. Cbcs yellow lable Eastman and Laird on inside cover. Paid just over 16 want to say it was 16 2ish all in. Probably should have waited. But at the time I was thinking get my last comic grail and go onto my other grails. My guess is the book in question goes for 14 plus or minus 10%

As an aside I noticed there is a 3rd print yellow lable at 600 right now

A TMNT 1984 1st print is about as safe an investment as you could make. However, that book in 9.2 signed or not probably wont see 30K for a long time. My guess is it goes <20K. A 9.4 recently sold at 24K.

I would love to own a copy, but it seems like it'll take at least $10K to get even a low grade copy, as long as there isn't a bidding war.
