Holy Crap @OGJackster, that's a lot. I hope I'm playing the game right. This one is not a purple label, but it is restored and would have a purple label if it was sent to CGC.

If you don't agree, I will remove it, it is your thread after all. No harm, no foul.

a few of mine, I know some are not purple label but still restored. The cap 3 and 9, I'm planning on sending them in to have the restoration removed.

I actually think the purple looks good with the Weird Tales.

Question for the crowd.....what are some of the reasons you decided to purchase a restored comic versus non-restored? I know there is some stigma among collectors about certain color labels, restoration, etc.

Obviously the cost aspect and the ability to actually own rare key comics comes into play, but I'd like to hear other reasons as well. Does restoration bother you or no?

I personally am not put off by "small amount of color touch on cover". I think I know what this means but if someone more in-the-know would be willing comprehensively explain various types of this restoration I'd love to know your thoughts. When I see it I often try to find the resto but can't from the photo.

I think this is my only one. Bought raw from someone I thought was reputable and knew his stuff with the “no restoration” assurance. It was several years before I sent it in for grading. Haven’t bought from that guy in well over a decade now.

@figment I didn’t know CGC Conserved was a thing. I have no problem with restoration; though unlikely to purchase anything restored in my price range. Conserved is more appealing to me for some reason. Ya historical documents and art works are professionally restored time and time over without fault, but I guess the act of conservation is more appealing as an act of preserving condition. Idk comic are weird when it comes to resto with so many factors included in the labeling; from piece replacement, minor color touch, to reattaching a cover. For me resto is too much of a catch all with well done work, total messes that may have entire panels recreated, and photo copy covers.

I think I did. After a whole lot of looking in different lights and from different angles, I think I found a little dot that may have been the color touch. But that was a long time ago and now I can't remember exactly where it was. Somewhere in the black, pretty sure. I do remember looking at the inside of the covers and seeing no sign of any color bleed-through back before I sent it in.

The only purple label book I have is my Madame Xanadu #1. It's the only purple label copy on the census, which I did not know when I bought it.

@CatCovers That's what makes me so curious about the "restoration" label. Why not just doc the grade if some kid took a marker and colored in a light spot 30 years ago and grade the comic as-is.

A1 restoration can generally be removed, and at 5.0 could probably be done without grade loss. That's exactly how mine went from Restored (purple) to Conserved (blue/gray). If the color touch was the only thing done, and you had it removed, that Batman 42 would go from Restored to Universal.

@figment I’ve thought about doing that. But I keep having flashbacks of seeing books with color touch removed that look like someone let Edward Scissorhands handle the job. 😁
