Question regarding switching entire collection from CGC to CBCS20778

I don't have any CBCS slabs myself, but... Rydog private msg quote post Address this user
What's the status of this defect scratch? Still there on new cases?

Darn. I thought I saw somewhere that they were working with the manufacturer to reduce the scratch. But why not just eliminate it?

The thing is I don't want to have to crack them all open to send to CBCS. If I leave them in their CGC cases, they will be protected on-route to CBCS, which is a good thing, but will CBCS then do the cracking themselves or will they reject them because they are in CGC cases? Thanks for any input.

This would be an astounding waste of financial resources.

Have there been any updates to this scratch issue? I've been diligently searching scans on Ebay for these scratches. On some new label cases, the scratch is huge like 4 inches across the bottom of the case and looks absolutely trashed, and on others, I can't find the scratch at all, like on this image here:

I've literally been withholding business from CBCS until this issue is finally worked out.

Any updates on this front?

@Rydog all of the books I get back from CBCS, the cases are flawless. If you have not had one of their latest slabs, you are in for a treat. They are stout and crystal clear. Best one on the market.

Then what are you going to do the next time they change labels? They've both changed them numerous times and will continue to do so.

You're chasing the wrong dragon.

Plus, if you ever sell or trade, you might be glad you kept the CGC label.

Edit: old thread, never mind.

@Rydog The new CBCS cases are virtually perfect. Crystal clear and tough as nails. If you want to go with CBCS, now is as good a time as any.

Regarding resale or trade, there is zero scientific evidence to suggest that cgc and cbcs are not at parity. You will do just fine if selling or trading CBCS books.

Just looking at the factual numbers vs. desire:

Assuming all "New" comics, that's $22 X 40 = $880
Including shipping to CBCS and shipping back, let's round to $1000 for this exercise.

You mention you have 9.8's. With 99% likelihood they will either remain 9.8 or go down in grade.
The ones that go down in grade, there will be a loss in value for those books graded lower by CBCS.

So $1000 expenditure + loss in value on some 9.8 already graded comics.

As an alternative, perhaps consider sending in the less than 9.8 (9.6, 9.4, 9.2 etc..) that you feel were unfairly/graded incorrectly by CGC? And retain the CGC 9.8's to retain their value?
There is the additional small risk of lord knows what could happen to your books in transit back and/or forth.

I'm seriously trying to understand the desire to put out that much money; and additionally lose value on books. That's alot of dough to put out and some FMV losses for sure.

If he has a bunch of modern books in slabs numbered 42XXXXXX to present, then it might benefit him to have them regraded by CBCS.

I was looking at someone's post about books they had in the current MCS auction. All of them were moderns that started with 44XXXXXX... prime banana book potential.

I wouldn't touch those books with a ten foot pole even if I needed them for my collection. There's no sense in borrowing trouble, much less paying for it.

I've noticed consignment CGC books on MCS that start with 43 or 44 have sale prices below FMV.....I'd say the word is out.
