Worth it to change slab?20773

Collector StraightArrow private msg quote post Address this user
So, I got a Flash #110 recently. It's a 0.5 CGC, but I'm really not a fan of CGC labels and the case has some scuffs/scratches, etc.

Would it be completely ridiculous to send it CBCS to have it "regraded" and slabbed? I'm not going to get a better grade, since the cover is split and completely detached and I'm mostly concerned about the existing integrity of the book.

Am I being stupid? Is it too much risk to the book itself to do this?

Cover is just split? It's not incomplete? If so, it's very likely you could get a 1.0 (and double the grade lol) by sending it back to either company. It's only worth switching labels though if it'll make you happy.

No, according to the grader's notes, it's not incomplete. The cover is split and detached, staining, tape on the book, etc. Just in rough shape overall. That was kind of a concern, too, like would it damage the book further for them to remove it from the existing case? Should I just leave it as is?

I don't think I'll ever sell the book, since I'm a big Wally West fan, but if I can improve the grade, that's awesome. Plus, I like the CBCS labels better and it'll match my other graded Flash books. I'll kick the idea around a little longer.

Thanks for the thoughts on the matter!

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@StraightArrow - Yes, you could send it in, and from my opinion not ridiculous to consider doing so. How ever, the delicate and possible brittle nature of the cover an pages could be an issue when removing from the old encasement. But again, grade is not going to go down unless cgc missed some missing pages. So the risk is probably aesthetics based if shipping to Texas, and/or removing from the encasement damages the comic.

I would probably go for it.

Really no risk to the book. You would just be spending extra money. I wouldn't do it personally but knock yourself out!

I'd do it. I like your odds of it getting a 1.0. Sent worse conditions books than that and have gotten 1.0s. My belief is, if the book isn't missing significant pieces, it should not fall below a 1.0.

How about making a “fantasy” label and cover up the cgc one?

If it isn't incomplete, it should at least get a 1.0. What does the back look like?

The back looks about the same, beat to hell and back

Grader's Notes:

Spine of cover completely split and cover detached
Tape centerfold
Heavy tape stain full left of spine

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Send it to cbcs....better everything including the grade because if that book is indeed complete, you'll get a 1.0.
