Cgc has confirmed that if you resubmit one of their slabs for signature verification you will also be charged for grading and the grading fee may be higher, since the signature increases the fmv of the book.

Happy to see there is a clear cut, no subjectivity, policy. (Independent of whether I agree or not with policy).

It might be a clear cut, no subjectivity, policy for the likes of you and me, but if you're one of the sacred "in" crowd... who knows?

I’ve thought for a long time CBCS could use a label change to differentiate Witnessed and verified signatures. With CGC joining as competition for Verified signatures, it’s the ideal time to make an adjustment. Use gold foil instead of yellow for Witnessed signatures so that CBCS will stand apart from CGC. And silver foil labels for Verified signatures. |

I don't like.the idea of different colored labels for witnessed versus authenticated. That's like saying your verified signature is legitimate, but the witnessed signature is more legitimate... like a backhanded compliment or damned by faint praise.

@DrWatson I see what you’re saying, my mindset has to do with shopping, either at Cons or online. From a distance, you can tell a book is either Witnessed or Verified.

Quote:Originally Posted by flanders I see that Matt Nelson confirmed the books would be regraded - but did not see in his reply he said why. Did he say somewhere else or to you that the signature increases the value of the book? Because that is not always true. I've seen signed copies bring less or the same. Over at the CGC forums, there are some that express great displeasure at CGC offering the verification service. I don't have any problem with that. CBCS has been doing it for years and I'm surprised it took CGC as long as they did to offer a service there is a clearly a demand for. There is nothing wrong with businesses trying to make money by competing with the competition. But the regrading part seems--- excessive. CGC has already graded the book. Getting paid to authenticate signatures and reholdering with a signature series label is charging for a service Demanding to regrade just looks greedy. I'm sure CGC makes a profit on reholders. One can also peak behind the curtain - if books are going to be regraded then it becomes wise to pay for pressing to try to ensure at least holding the grade assigned. |
