| Foxing is a catch-all term but not all foxing is created equal (literally). Some is oxidation of metallic contamination in the paper. You will see this in virtually all old books / documents of certain vintages because of the extent of impurities. Environment plays a role but you can think of it more like an exceptional environment may reduce impact⌠even a âgoodâ storage environment may result in foxing. Personally, this type of foxing doesnât bother me at all so long as it doesnât detract from the aesthetic. Consider it patina. Light ârustâ color, reflecting exactly that - oxidation of tiny bits of iron distributed in the paper. Other âfoxingâ is mold. Organic matter, often encouraged through combination of excessive moisture and/or other catalysts that promote and enable its growth. That type of foxing is often a different color, less ârustâ color and more prone to be darker browns, black, greens. Often accompanied by odor and other signs of direct water damage/staining. This would usually be accompanied with the other more benign foxing (for obvious reasons). Hard to see from your photos but looks like a newer book, with water damage and some dark spots. There could be mold in addition to the more benign form⌠|

@Davethebrave my books are all stored away from sun light and I have a dehumidifier keeping the level at 35-40. I'm hoping to also take it in to my LCS to see what they think and if it's okay to keep. Mind you I got this for a $1 so if it's lost then its lost but I really like it  thank you all for your input. |
