With a press and the cgc grading standards of today, that would be at least a 9.2.

Is there a standard number of pages for a '70s magazine? (Tales of the Zombie, Vampirella, etc) Related question: For said mags, is 2 the standard number of staples? |

Monsters unleashed had 66 pages and so did space 1999 While vampire tales had 74 pages. I think in general between 60-80 pages depending on the publisher and the book itself. Page numbers don't seem to be universal like standard comic books. |

So. My brother has decided he wants to create a home theater setup. We traveled most of FL today to collect pieces to his stereo puzzle. Does anybody know if it's a fact you need to match front speakers with center channel with same brand and series? I read in a few places that is a myth that gets perpetuated a lot, but the reality is mixing brands is fine. What say you? |

He bought a few pieces but didn't get the 2 fronts yet. We shall see what he decides to do. Tomorrow he is planning on testing the 2 subs he bought. When they demoed the one in showroom, it rocked the place. Thank goodness we dont live in a zero lot line house.

What I did do was ensure similar quality and sizing (all full size speakers) and similar tonal quality. You don’t want dramatic difference across those channels… my setup is very immersive and the integration of the different speakers is seamless. It can be done without issue. What speakers did he select so far and what else is he considering? |

He apparently is a huge SVS fan. He bought 2 subs. One for the computer room and one for the home theater. Below is what he bought so far. Marantz SR5008 7.2 reciever SVS PB2000. SUB SVS SB1000 PRO. SUB SVS PRIME SATELLITE x 2 SVS PRIME CENTER CHANNEL I would imagine he would get SVS for the fronts, but nothing has popped up that peaked his interest yet. I did show him an article that stated the matched set is a recommendation and not gospel so he might deviate. His budget is limited, so everything has been used but tested so far. The sb1000 pro was used as background noise for this old guy and I dont understand how but he had decibels in negative on his phone app for the woofer. It was really quiet. He didn't have any music that showcased the sub like the PB2000. I can't emphasize how big the pb2000 is physically and loudnes wise. He barely had the thing cranked up and it felt like a damn earthquake. Thankfully my brother and I have similar music likes but I will lose sleep when he plays movies. Even though I've been told my house is huge and the bedrooms are on tbe opposite ends of the house from the living room, I know it's going to be LOUD. |

SVS is good value for subs and I think I had one years ago. If you have the space but depending on layout and how good he/you wants this to sound, I suggest giving some thought to acoustic panels. It can be DIY or purchased (I personally went with GIK acoustics). For a home theater they can have as big an impact as speakers on the final sound… I think he can do well with completing his setup with another pair of SVS for fronts… but agree it isn’t necessary (though will take more effort to ensure they match nicely). Finally, which amp is he using? Quote: Originally Posted by Bronte |

Everything he has bought has been self powered. He has not bought an amp. To be honest I didn't know he needed one. I am not a sound guy at all. He used to work at Full Sail in Orlando as an instructor so he has more knowledge than me by far. However, he did more video than audio. As for acoustic panels. That probably won't be possible in my house. My house has windows and sliding glass doors everywhere. It's kinda like living in a greenhouse if it wasn't for the blinds. |

Interesting. No avr/receiver but ultimately a 5.2 setup? For panels even with windows and doors you can do some cool stuff to reduce reflections and improve the sound without it looking too obvious. It can always be done later, however. Some panels can have prints done on the fabrics (making them look like frameless art). It is about controlling reflections (which you must have a lot of). Ultimately whatever sounds good is good. These things can become rabbit holes and a lot of pseudo science (cables are the biggest area of BS… decent cables are important but ultra premium stuff is just pissing away $ in my opinion). Acoustic paneling, however, does make a real and noticeable difference. So something to consider (even if ultimately rejected). Good luck! Quote: Originally Posted by Bronte |

The reciever is the marantz unit. He will probably settle for 5.1 The cables I read about are crazy. They go from super cheap to thousands of dollars. I read that micca cables are really good for the cost. And when we went to get the subwoofers I asked the sellers if they could include the cables. The pb2000 guy gave me a 100$ cable for free. The sb1000 pro guy sold me a 50$ cable for 10 bux. I will look at the paneling and see what research yields. Thank you for your input.i can't imagine the sound being very good when literally 1 wall is all glass. |

The Marantz has the amplifier built in :-) There are good reasons pricier cables can be discounted so much :-) you will do fine with quality ones that don’t break the bank. Anything more is wasted. Unless you are running dozens of feet long cables or have a lot of potential interference sources. Even with the glass, thoughtful panels may help. Also, of course consider rugs / carpets and other natural sound absorbers. If your bro has worked in related areas, he is likely aware. Quote: Originally Posted by Bronte |

Listening to what we have now. Sub and 2 satellite speakers. (Centerchannel is not shipped yet) it sounds like a concert hall. Never thought sound coming from roku could sound this good.

So my friends mother in law had a lizard crawl up through her toilet. Apparently this happens a lot in Florida. Personlly I've lived in Florida since 1981 and this is the 1st time I've seen a picture of it. |

As many toilets as I have plunged in my illustrious career, I have a hard time believing that size lizard maneuvered its body and held its breath all through the plumbing and came up in the toilet. It's more likely that it made its way into the house unseen and end up in the toilet bowl looking for water.

@Bronte That's a first that I have seen as well. The buggers get in through any small crack, but that's crazy. Aqualung, held his breath for how long? Swam through what? He looks right at home there. |
