| Who knows electrical wiring?? 3 way switch issue? I think I know the answer - pull the plugs and test to see what is what!! I have a bathroom fan that will turn on from 2 switches (#1 outside the bathroom and #2 inside the bathroom) If #1 turned it on #2 can't turn it off If #2 turned it on #1 can't turn it off I would like to use #1 to turn on and off a different fixture so that only #2 turns on and off the bathroom fan I think it must be a 3 way with something funny going on with the traveler wires - like they are reversed or jumped? Like only 1 traveler from #1 to #2 and is jumped to both traveler terminals on #2 So #1 if off will have hot to through a traveler to #2 so that #2 will turn on and off But if #1 is on then traveler attached to both terminals on #2 will mean #1 turns it on and off but #2 will do nothing while #1 is on? (what it does now) But this means power is into #1 outside the bathroom so I can't really disconnect to use #1 for a different fixture because then #2 would have no power OR!!! Is power to the fan and then 3 way switches off that All too confusing...need to pull the switch boxes and see what is connected to what and maybe test some wires? |
