Comic-Con: The Cruise (Hygiene Optional)20472

Masculinity takes a holiday. EbayMafia private msg quote post Address this user
Anyone else get this email about the Comic-Con Cruise a year from now in February 2025? Anyone considering buying a ticket? Prices seem reasonable enough, starting around $900 per person for a week cruise with meals.

I like partying at comic con and would probably like drinking for a week with the same people. If I had a way to leave the kids for a week i might think about it.

Currently, people listed under "The Talent" seem to all be actors. I'd expect there to be a bunch of comic people. Maybe not.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Who doesn't like to take their comics to a boat on an ocean full of water?

What could go wrong?

@EbayMafia We are regular cruisers and the $990 per person is more than double the price of a regular cruise. If you look on Royal Caribbeans' website, the cruise the following week is starting at $436 each. The Serenade is one of their oldest ships. It was built in 2003. We haven't sailed on it but we have sailed on older ships. I couldn't find if the ship had been refurbished. Royal regularly refit their ships. The decor will be dated but the cruise itself should be fine. Royal has some of the best food and service we have experienced. Being an older ship they won't have all the flashy things to do onboard. One other you have to consider is the gratuities. They are $16.00 per person per day. They automatically charge you at the end of the cruise. The gratuities go to dining room waiters and room stewards. You get charged even if you don't go to the main dining (free dinner).

@Jgwalters100 The only complementary drinks they have are teas, coffees and juices. Soda and alcohol packages are available and they aren't cheap. I couldn't tell you the price because it's based on the number of days. We don't buy the alcohol package because we feel we would drink too much to get our monies worth. I think they charge about $8+ for alcoholic beverages. We have bought the soda package and they usually have Coke Freestyle machines for self service. You can also get sodas at the bars.

For the last 8 years (minus the Covid years), I have travelled cross-country via plane to attend SDCC.

Every year but one I have gotten some sort of Con Crud
Last year I even contracted Covid.

There's that old saying about doing the same thing and expecting different results.
At least ... at least in San Diego when I'm out of the Convention Center I'm not around other sick bastards who don't give a shit about giving their disease to others.

On a Boat + SDCC + my 8 year luck, I'm apt to catch something that is not even a disease yet.

Funny that 2003 is an old ship, I think that's about the timeframe of the last cruise I went on. I do plan to do another cruise in the next couple of years, good to know that the (starting) prices are still very reasonable. I thought this one was interesting but it's not something I would do. When I go on a cruise, I prefer a lack of activity. I like to be itinerary-free and even get annoyed at having set dinner reservations. Maybe if I did more cruises, I would want to try one that is activity based. But when I think of going on a cruise, I want it to be like a train ride...nothing to do and all day to do it.

Depending on the time of year and length of cruise you can get rates under $200.

One thing you might want to look at is Virgin Voyages. They do everything different. Sodas are free. Specialty dining is free. They encourage reservations but they are not necessary. Alcohol is based on a prepaid bar tab. There are a ton of other things they do different. They took all the annoying things about cruising and made them better. Look on YouTube. There are get videos on what its like to cruise with them. We're trying them in the fall and they even matched our loyalty with Royal. The thing we're looking forward to the most is no kids. We're old enough that we have kids that live on their own. Going on a cruise without kids running all over the ship misbehaving because their parents don't care is a pleasant proposition.

Technically speaking, hygiene is not optional....the level of quality is though.

I did enough cruising in the Navy. While I would like to take a commercial cruise, it probably wouldn't be for a comic con. Pro wrestling and Kiss have even held their own respective cruises, so why not comics? There are more than enough homunculi running around at the cons to fill up a few cruise ships.

I'm old enough to remember when that kind of thing could get you kicked out of the Navy.

I have a feeling it will cater more to the Pop Culture fans than comics. CosPlay will be insane on that ship. I don't understand why they call Pop Culture shows comic cons. There are hardly any comic vendors at them.
