Comics and the movie "The Accountant"2045

COLLECTOR conditionfreak private msg quote post Address this user
No spoilers worth worrying about.

I watched the "Accountant" movie last night. Staring Ryan Reynolds.

He is a mathematics wizard, and a John Wicks kind of character. But there is an unusual twist to his backstory, that is "different".

Anyway, at one point in the movie, he is getting together a "go bag". He has a secret stash of tons of cash, American and British, and gold bars. All in drawers in his secret place.

But the thing is. He also has a couple of comic books in those same drawers. One is Action Comics #1, and I think the other is All-American Comics #16. Which is the first Green Lantern (a character Reynolds also played).

So, he is grabbing stuff he needs for his "go bag", and he takes the guns, lots of cash, and the Action Comics #1, and puts all of that into his bag. Then is on his way to "war".

Now, I thought about that for awhile. He left behind lots of gold bars, and lots of cash. Probably millions. But he took the Action Comics #1. Why the comic?

Surely it wasn't about the ability to sell it. He had tons of cash and gold he left behind. Although the case could be made that it was a lighter load than cash or gold, I guess.

But my thoughts are, it was because that item was important to him. in case the other guys found his secret place. I cringed when he stuffed it into his gym bag.

He left behind the Green Lantern first appearance. Ha Ha

I have not seen the movie yet but thought that it was Ben Affleck in the movie.

It was Ben Affleck, not Ryan Reynolds.

A 9.0 sold for over $3 million. Given the choice of carrying that much in cash and/or gold, I'd grab the comic. Much lighter to travel with.

I would agree with that. Unloading gold bars and toting big amounts of money is very suspect, but a comic book is easly concealed and would be easy to unload with buyers like us. It would take a while for any one to track that sale espically if it was a private sale.

My mistake. They look alike to me. Interchangeable.

Cheat sheet for you:
Ben has a fat face, is annoying, and IMO doesnt belong in a Batman costume. Ryan is skinny, hilarious, plays a great deadpool and a horrible Green Lantern

Btw thanks for the movie tip, I'm always looking for something decent to watch 🍺

Are you saying Ben Affleck and Ryan Reynolds look a like? I'm pretty sure a significant portion of the non-existing (if they existed) comic book female community would have to disagree.

Wrong, I saw thousands of these unicorns at Cincy Comic Expo. I've never seen an Action #1.

Fake unicorns. How many of them were browsing through the comic book vendors?

I saw none at RICC lol

Interesting scene with the comic books. They would be much easier to transport versus the weight of the actual cash value. They would also be easy to travel with without setting off red flags. I think it's technically illegal to carry more than $10 grand aboard an airplane. And they would be easy to unload without any authorities being aware. Now this begs the question, was this put into the movie by Affleck because he himself is a comic book guy, or are international assassins really dealing in comic books for these reasons?

Personally I thought Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern was decent enough, it was the plot/script that sucked and sent that movie into the toilet. Now as Deadpool he nailed it and kicked some #$%!!!

@Foghorn_Sam I thought Ryan Reynolds was the perfect Hal Jordan. Of all the failings of that movie, he wasn't one of them. I also heard that he was on the short list of actors to play in the next Green Lantern movie which ties into the new Justice League cinematic universe. And I wouldn't be mad if he got the part.

I just thought he should have had a Detective 27? Wish I asked the director when I met him.

Oh no I liked the movie as well @no1lufcfan , just not enough to buy it, nor think that any aspect of it was exceptional including Ryan

( I feel like there is another thread a few months ago we discussed this 🤔)

Now here's the real question...Were the comics in the movie raw or slabbed, and if slabbed, by who?

Raw

They were also reproductions. The wouldn't use a real Action 1 in the film, because it would have to be insured.

Also, I enjoyed the Green Lantern movie. It's not great, but better than a lot of other comic books movies I've seen.

Fantastic Four, Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Fan4stic, I'm looking at you.

Green Lantern was better than Age of Ultron in my opinion. Age of Ultron had more plot holes than swiss cheese, but apparently all the internet critics thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm at a Super Bowl party and this is my first time using an IPad.

I also thought it should have been a Tec 27, but the premise is hiding money by being paid in things other than money. So perhaps he doesn't even care about comic books. Who knows. IOt is a movie.

But my original point was, that he was not "running". He was packing to go to battle. Yet he took a comic book and cash.

I think is was just because it was something's special to him. Not for the one financialvalue.

But who knows. It's a movie.

They all liked Batman vs. Superman too. A long movie that produced another whiney and moody Superman. He's the strongest of all the heroes and is portrayed as unsure, and pissy. Snyder is stuck in the Watchmen movie universe and can't seem to generate a Superman that is a functioning person who is self-assured, smart, bold, and brave.
